Ite so i drive an 06 jeep wrangler and recently installed new speakers, head unit, and amp. Shit bumps and i lock the front of the head unit and amp up whereever i go. So i get out of school yesterday and found that someone stole my jacket from the back and smashed my windows. Now i have to buy 2 new side windows. Should i just have left the stuff unlocked so the theif would be satisfied and not break my shit?

it wasnt on school grounds i park down the street because my school has 2,500 kids and theres barely enough parking for half of the seniors

Soft top or hardtop? I'm guessing hardtop since they smashed the windows. Rule number one of jeeps is doors unlocked if you're rocking softop, locked if you're using hardtop. Rule number two of jeeps..never keep anything of value in them.

Soft top and the windows were out. He didnt need to break the windows to get in which is why im mad af about the situation

oh so he smashed your door windows? If you had soft top windows out you definitely shouldn't have locked the doors...whats the point?? I get pissed at my girlfriend when she gets out of the passenger side and locks door with top down..

It might not have even mattered..i've left doors unlocked and have had people knife through the top just to get in twice. Luckily it was only a half cab set up so it wasn't that expensive to replace

If you need to keep valuables in your jeep, ditch the center console for a tuffy or make your own like I did. I've had the cheap plastic center console and glove box broken into so many times...I had enough and finally mounted a .50 cal ammo can into my old jeep - it was fucking indestructible

It never really leaves paved roads, but god damn do I love having my Camry. Pretty big trunk, lock all of my valuables in the trunk that no one can see into, it drives well, gets great mileage, and is reliable as fuck.

Irrelevant but when my day was in HS back in the early 80's went out to his car one day to find a bunch of kids he rarely knew were tokin up in his soft top one day.

Why risk having your soft-top being ripped apart or cut through when you can just leave your door unlocked.  As long as you leave nothing valuable in your car or have it properly locked in the glove compartment, there's no harm in leaving the door unlocked.

They're not going to have to break into it if the doors are fucking unlocked. Jeeps with soft tops are much easier to break into with locked doors than lets say, a toyota camry. 

If someone has the intent of breaking into someone's car, chances are that they're going to try to open the door first.  If you leave your doors unlocked on a soft top jeep, they won't have to cut your top. Now that they're in your car, as long as all your shit is locked in the glove compartment, they'll most likely leave without doing any damage.

If you leave your doors locked on your soft top jeep, someone with the intent of breaking into a car is going to see your car as a golden opportunity because of how easy it is to cut the soft top.  Even if all your stuff is locked away, you'll still have a cut top, which most likely wouldn't have happened if you left your doors unlocked.

And being on different sides of an argument about how to protect your car from robbers hardly merits a reality check...

I understand why you would leave your door unlocked on a jeep.

But leaving them unlocked does make it easier to break into. Its a lot easier and less noticeable to open a door than cut through a roof or smash a window.

with the top down or no rear window an average sized man can reach around and hit the unlock button

locking the doors literally does nothing except leaving your softop open for a swift knife swipe or in OP's case a smashed window. I've left the doors UNLOCKED and people have still cut through my top to get into my jeep

Still, people are less likely to break in or cut your soft top if the doors are locked. Fewer people will go through the trouble or risk of getting caught from damaging your car.
