Does anyone burn DVDs of their work? A few questions

So I am planning on entering a few local film contests and one of them requires a DVD. Now I have burned decent quality DVDs before but they are never quite as good as a compressed computer files. I usually use compressor and just the standard dvd settings and then bring that into DVD Studio Pro with a standard def project because sometimes HD projects dont work on some players.

So my question, is there a better way to make a high quality DVD that I won't have to worry about no working on other devices or is this about as good as it gets unless I go with Blu-Ray? I am trying out the HD DVD settings and I am sure it will play on my computer, but will it for sure play on other possibly older devices?

Figured Id ask and see if anyone has had any better experiences with this. If this is a repost, oh well.

i have no experience at dvd, honestly don't think i've ever burned one.

but i just burned a few blu-rays of a new video for the graduating seniors exhibit at the art gallery at my school.

i edited in adobe premiere -> exported in uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2 from my computer -> final cut pro on an imac with a blu-ray burner -> burned

the final product looks incredible. virtually no banding and no compression artifacts at all. highly suggest blu-ray

oh nice! i think for future stuff ill definitely check out blu-ray but for this little film festival thing idk if they would accept it or not. not sure how big of an event it is really
