Nordica Vs. Armada

Yes, it is another help me pick a ski thread, sorry.

I have done some researching back and forth on different skis, Ive asked different people and still cant decide what ski I want.

I am 5'9" 160lbs, type III skier, ski the east coast(PA 7springs), love to ski jumps mainly(85% jumps, 15% rails), but also love to ski all over the mountain(hill) on and off groomers and occasionally through some woods. Probably 65% park, 35% the rest of the resort. We do get some snow every once in a while.

I've been looking at the halo's but Ive heard that it isnt great all mountain, Ive also been looking at the soul riders and even the chronics haha. I currently ride the 2011 Ace of Spades and love them but I really wanted, but dont need, a ski with rocker. Any advice/suggestions you guys could give me would be much appreciated. The skis dont have to be limited to nordica and armada. Thanks!

check out Faction Wednesdays or Somas, both versatile skis at 92mm underfoot, Wednesdays are full camber, Somas are rocker/camber/rocker, both dope skis for park and slay all over the mountain


maybe even the Prodigy at 98mm underfoot

I've never really heard or have seen people on fraction skis. How is their durability?

durability is top notch, I've ridden the Wednesdays in the park and all over the mountain and only had a couple edge cracks, almost no topsheet chipping and hardly any base damage

Faction would be a good choice, but picking from your options, the chronics are the perfect 7 Springs ski. They held up very well and performed as they should have. A bit stiffer than other skis, and it had a tiny bit more underfoot but not too much to screw up swing weights. Chronics are a great ski.

I've kinda steered away from them because of line's durability compared to other companies.

lines are plenty durable. i doubt you are going to be snapping skis if you didnt know what my last comment meant

implying that OP's level of park skiing is reflected by his knowledge of the durability of smaller ski brands.

But really though, line's durability isn't that bad.

The only line skis that people need to be steered away from are the masterminds and aftetbangs. Other than those cheapo skis, their durability is fine.

k2 no longer make revivals but i do believe there a still a few around if u look. my mate has them and loves them.. given that there is almost 0 camber on them im not entirely sure how they will perform in terms of all mountain but for park they will be a lot of fun.

best bet would be line chronics mounted at like -4. very versatile ski and the durability is fine.. pretty much every ski company has their good skis and their shit skis so to say that one brand has "bad durability" can be very misleading...

Thank you. Alot of people have said the chronics but I still really like Nordica skis and would like to hear some input on them( newer AoS, el paco, and soul rider) before I really make a decision.

love my 2012 AoS skis and since they are in 170, they arent symmetrical and have a 120 shovel. really nice for all mountain and slush/crud some heavier snow

I've been rocking the AR7 for the last two years and I can say it slays everything. Im not a big park rider but went with the AR7 cause it's stiff. Im right around the same size as op and went with 176. Could of gone with the 181 for a larger turning radius and more stable feeling when going really fast but 176 feels better in the park. With the exception of really deep pow(12in+), everything else on the mountain I've hit with AR7s.

The only reason I'm staying away from the ar7 is because I think it would be to stiff for my liking. The AoS I have are pretty flexy after 2 years and love their flex. I wouldn't mind some thing even more flexy.

PC is the best park ski armada has... i find the regular bases on ar7, thall etc are too slow... people complain of maintenance/durability but its just not true...

Buying nordica ace of spades next year TI - 177... cause they r stiffer, have race base, more traditional sidecut, not that spilt cap construction. The PC's before the split cap construction were $$$. Really like nordica's new lineup/direction they r going.

I've never skied them but I know a bunch of fools who do. It's a dope ski, I would buy them. MY dad even loved them for all mountain when he demo'd them.

Definately stay away from the el paco... I have a friend who has them and I've tried them and, in my opinion, are horrendous in the park... Take another look at the HALOS they slay all mountain and park both and handle quite well in powder under a foot!

I've ridden both the ace of spade and soul rider and nordica by far is my favorite out there right now. the spades snappy, quick, durable, fast, and pretty light for a metal ski. the soul riders are soooo much fun. for a 97 waist, theyre super buttery and smooth. easy to go over on edge and swap. if you want that perfect all mountain ski go with the soul rider, if youre looking for a little more park specific, go with the aos.

the reason i say stay away from aramada is they dont really make a lot of skis with a full sidewall. you pay an ungodly amount for a partial sidewall ski, which when compared to the ace, a full sidewall full metal layer twin, its night and day.

Next year's Armada Halos are mad nice. There is a new smaller size and they are much wider underfoot.
