Can an Edgeless skis work?

Ninthward has said that they will soon be dropping a completely edgeless ski explained on this page : http://ninthward.com/skis.html. although I understand it will barely work on normal groomers. To what extent will the ski be usable I.e. jumps, cannons etc. And how do you think it will affect the way your jumps jumps and rails as well as groomers would feel?

I feel like edgeless skis are only actually practical for hitting urban rails that are not hitable with normal skis.

Well this year i used my salomon thrusters from like 5 years ago for a rail jam and their basically edgeless and what edge they have left are completely dull and dont help at all and on rails they're great and u never catch but on groomers theyre extremely ackward to ski cause u cant get an edge in unless the snows soft. So unless all u do is rails or urban i wouldnt reccomend gettin them.

Both line and moment have made them for their team riders and interns and stuff like that before. I think I had heard that some moment interns unleashed on a slushy spring park with them and they were some of the funnest skis they ever rode. Then line, pretty sure the TC guys have edge less skis for doing some of the jibs that they do. I've also seen pics of John Kutcher trying to rip some ON3P edges out to hit some gnar urban. The skis would work for soft conditions and be pretty good on rails. But without a steel edge, there's a lack of grip on hard snow which is obvious, but also a lack of grip on rails for spins. Hopefully that helps ya OP.

Forum made a completely edgeless board years and years ago. It was marketed as a cheap board for hitting street rails with. It was garbage. The base and sidewalls got all torn up and ruined so fast. The metal edge is important to keep your board or ski from getting destroyed by minor hits I think.

The only real need for not having edges would be if you're trying to slide things like Will Wesson does. Aka picket fences and tenis court nets. Or I guess if you're exclusively riding deep powder you probably don't need edges.

I have a pair of skis with absolutely no edges and this is very accurate. Except i don't see any difference in gripping rails.


Like everyone said, they're good for urban and actually skiable in soft snow. Forget about carving off jumps with hard snow, or skiing on any hard snow for that matter. And yea, the sidewalls/base get trashed extremely fast without and metal support.

If you'd read what they actually said about the ski, they said it is strictly for urban, so one would assume it wouldn't be that good on jumps, cannons, etc.

they say that so they have no liability when someone decides to take the ski down a groomer and can't stop because there are no edged, slams into a tree and dies. It's not because it won't perform well on a jump

They have rocker across the base and tip and tail rocker. The base looks like canoe haha

moment's edgeless design (the frankenski) is fucking sweet. it embeds the edges so that you still retain the strength that they provide the ski, but have the advantage of no edges. granted, they are sketchy on hard snow, but great on urban and in spring slush.

On top of this what are the general thoughts on the game changer I.e. plastic grind plate. How well would this work with groomers, jumps etc.

Sorry, I don't quite understand the whole deal with their edge, can you please elaborate and how much are these going to be. Oh and just an FWI your segment in sunny alongside parker's was just mind bogglingly sick like your one foot ski slide on that ledge when you just slammed into that wall. mind=blown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want the most creative jib ski out the Frankenski is the way to go. Flexible, durable and frankly I think they do pretty well all over for a ski without a complete edge touching the ground. I guarantee it will be the smoothest sides of your life.

tanners been crushing urban on them since last year
theyre an urban specific destroyer and they weigh about two thirds of a normal ski some kids are gonna love them

I’ve had skis with the edges ripped out underfoot and they...worked, I guess.

Eliminating the entire edge, not just underfoot, seems silly and pointless to me, especially since I think I already read that their price isn’t going to be that low

The noted flex pattern is a 1-2-1. I’m thinking this is about as soft as it gets since it is missing any added stability from edges. Purely hypothesized though. Feel free to correct me if anyone else has more details.
