Why does America keep fighting wars against ideas?

First, communism in Vietnam, not radical islam (or jihadism, or terrorism, you really could say either of the 3) in Iraq and Afghanistan.

You can't fight a war against something that doesn't have a physical body, or those who practice guerrilla warfare (VC and Al Qaeda or the Taliban). Well, practically you could but the way we fight isn't suited for guerrilla warfare (fight fire with fire).

I'm studying this in APUSH right now, so lets discuss, I'm interested about what other people think about this.

Im not quite sure.. But I think you just mixed up your words. You meant that America fucks shit up all over the world right? I think that would make a lot more sense.

Imagine it this way...

There is a capitalist country trying to spread or force Capitalism into another country.

Say a communist country stopped them, with military force. Said capitalist country in the coming decades failed economically and collapsed.


Would we be asking the same question in the OP about the Communist country? Most likely yeah. It's a two sided thing.

I'm not justifying these wars, but they have happened and we should just accept that they did. For the next decade or two I don't see America electing a President who openly approves/pushes another war on Ideology with the internet making it very easy to denounce these efforts.
