i think i know what you mean by breeding douchebags, if by that you mean the boulder types then yeah ft. collins does get a few of those.
or the other type of douchebag(kinda the same actually, but more specific) is the beer enthusiast, knows all about the different kinds of beer like he's at a wine tasting, rides his bike everywhere not because he enjoys it but because "cars suck" "i pass on gas". doesnt own a TV because he's trying to make a statement, tells everyone about it. dresses like he's much poorer than he is. brags about how little material possessions he has. only buys local no matter how shitty the product is. all about being accepting and chill and cool with everything but if you arent just like him then fuck you.
yeah there are a few of those types around, but they mostly stick around the bars and breweries which you're bound to find shitty people at nomatter where they are. but i will say, its a much smaller concentration than boulder. i actually had someone bitch at me while i was in boulder because they could smell my laundry detergent, because it wasnt organic or some shit and it was making them feel sick. seems like every time i go there i encounter some stuck up snob that has a problem with everything.
and mtn biking is definitely not mediocre, if you know where to go there is some awesome stuff, probably the best on the front range and ranks up there with some of the best in the state. I'd spend like every free day and day after work up in the horsetooth area doing something fun for like the entire summer.
Where are you talking about that has other/cooler/better things to do? i cant think of anything within an hour or so, maybe rocky mtn national park? boulder, greeley, denver, etc all suck.
i will say the distance from the mountains kinda sucks, but really, if your anywhere IN denver it takes about just as long when you include getting out of the city, boulders a little quicker but not enough to really notice or care. the distance sucks but you get used to it, 1:50 to breck isnt terrible.
basically if your into outdoor stuff, swimming, hiking, biking, camping, offroading, etc.. (the offroading/caming spots within 40 minutes are awesome) fort collins is great, if your more into the bars, party, drinking/smoking, socializing, I have lots of money but pretend to be poor by looking like a dirty hippy, scene. then go to boulder.
