First time using airbag on friday!! +K

Hey guys, have a question.

This friday the US airbag tours coming to our mountain friday-sunday.
I have NO experience whatsoever on a bag, water ramp, or anything like that. I'm also (not going to lie) terrible with freestyle skiing and as I can't even 360.

That being said, I can backflip (land probably 50% of the time), cork 7 (just got recently, but land maybe 30% of the time), misty 5 (very well, like 95% of the time landing), frontflip (maybe 25% of the time), all on trampoline.

So heres the deal,
It's $10 for 3 jumps or
$25 bucks for 10 jumps or
$45 bucks for 25 jumps.
I'm thinking of the 10 jumps for 25 bucks since It will be busy (open to the public) and I might anymore jumps in, especially without getting to tired in the end.

So I'm asking you guys three things.

A. What tricks I should try with those 10 jumps based off off of my trampoline and (lack of) skiing skills?
I was thinking for the first two jumps, try a 360/540. Just get used to really throwing my spin and not get scared. Also get an idea of the jump and what the landings like. Then try two frontflips, then two misty 5's, then two backflips, and then with the last two whichever trick I wasn't completely satisfied with.

B. What is it like landing on a bag, both on your skis, and on your side/head? I've heard mixed things that it's like nothing at all, or it's painful.

and C. Is 10 jumps really enough? Should I do the 25 instead? I'm afraid of running out of time and getting to tired to really do anything in the end, resulting in wasting moniez.

*Sparknotes:*
Cant do anything on skis (including 360's), can frontflip, backflip, misty 5 and cork 7 on trampoline. I have 10 hits on an airbag. Was thinking 2 360's/540's, then 2 frontflips, then 2 misty 5's, then 2 backflips, then 2 of whatever I feel like. Asking advice on what I should do with my 10 jumps considering my lack of skiing skillz, if I should do more than 10 jumps, and what's it like landing and crashing on an airbag.

dont try to frontflip those jumps shoot you straight up so frontflips will be a bitch. just do backflips and cork 7s

landing is usually fine just make sure you hit you feet and roll to your shoulder so you don't whiplash, i would go straight air 3, 5, 7, fronty, backy, misty, cork or mix it up how u feel about it that day. and 25 jumps wouldnt be bad if u have a lift and arent hiking

So, you can't 360, but you can cork 7 and misty 5. How does that work?

I'll be there too on saturday, just gonna do a few jumps and see what happens. i'll probably try some rodeos/cork7.

with 10 jumps i wouldnt go for spins, flips would be better just dont clear the entire airbag like how some guy did in a video on NS. personally 10 jumps seems like nothing id rather go for 25 but 45 is just too much

I would straight air the first jump. It really helps you feel comfortable. My mountain had one for awhile, and some guys will just send it their first time and won't throw anything big afterwards because they biff and get bumped around.

Totally a personal opinion, but it really helps boost your confidence to spot the landing perfect and get a feel for the kicker, even landing on a bag.

I hit that same exact airbag that came to my mountain 2 weeks ago. Landing any way is fine, it's not painful at all, just try to land on your feet/ side so you don't get whiplash. I bought the 10 jumps, and I wish I bought the 25 because before half of the day was over I ran out, and I could've kept going on that thing all day. They don't let you do straight backies by the way, in prevention for hitting your head on the super steep lip. I tried lots of Rodeos, Flatspins, and Corks. You definitely have to throw your tricks harder than on the trampoline because you have 15+ pounds of gear on your feet and they slow you down quite a bit. Just hold a grab like Safety, or Japan to keep the rotation going! I wouldn't try frontflips on it because like a guy above me said, it's so steep that you basically stop in midair if you lean forward. Just stick to the tricks that I did, buy 25 jumps trust me, and have a blast. It's a once in a lifetime experience if you don't have enough $$$ to go to a ski camp like Movement, Windells, or Woodward.

Wow, thank you so much for that great response!
I'll see if I can muster up some more money for the 25 jumps, did you have to hike it or did they set up a rope tow? I'm assuming we have to hike so thats my only concern of getting too tired.
Bummer about the backfilps, but I guess I'll try flatspins! Its basically a backflip just throw a bit to the side, so if I want to bring it to a backflip later on I just throw it straight, not to the side.
Seriously, it really is a great experience if you can't afford windells. I'm super pumped now!


Another question I've thought of, I don't have full twintips, I have all mountain skis noncenter mounted with a half tail (yeah yeah booo I suck etc.) so I'm assuming it won't be to different right?

Also how big is the jump and any tips for landing on the bag, I've gotten "roll" out of the landing but what if you're going straight for landing on your side? Just loosen up and try to rag doll it out?

Im guessing it will be on the rope tow, would suck to hike otherwise. Really though landing on an airbag isnt at all hard, if you have ever seen one they absorb almost all of your impact. Landing on side/back shouldnt hurt a bit, just avoid the head. tuck and roll

bobby brown use to struggle with single backflips and would accidentally send them to double. However i doubt thats the case here

It's like landing in a pillow. You can land on your head and walk away laughing about it with some rare exceptions. I say try your Misty's and cork sev that you've been dialing in, although air-bags are more ideal for learning rodeos, backies, and corks because of the steep lip. Also, definitely do some 3's 5's 7's to get the feel of regular spins.


The only time i've found it to be a little painful landing in the bag is with bigger spins 900 and higher. You slap against the bag with some force with all that rotation. Big spins on a bag is kind of pointless anyways.

I got 10 jumps and really wanted more. I took me 3 trys to get a front all the way around because
1. I was scared first try
2. Jump sucks for fronts


So don't try fronts on the airbag.

Start out with a nice easy 360, because those aren't inverted so it won't be as scary, and you can spot the landing easily. After 3 I'd try whatever you want to learn the most.

The last few jumps FOR SURE try a straight backie. I've been lucky enough to hit 2 of those air bags and did straight backies on both and the guys were chill and didn't care. For backies, don't lean back until your toes are already off the lip to avoid hitting your head, and make sure to pop haha. They are super easy and awesome feeling landing one, even into an airbag for the first time.

Most of all have fun, you'll probably have to hike but that isn't that big of a deal. Riding the lift is always an option.

No problem man! And your skis won't be a problem. The jump is like 7-9 feet tall with a super steep lip. If you're going to land on your feet, do it. If your going to land anywhere else, try to roll to your side or your back and like you said just rag doll it out. haha. and yeah it's a hike, there's no rope tow :( but it's honestly not that bad. The line may get busy at times, but the majority of the time there was only like a 5-10 person wait. And that goes by pretty quickly!

Airbag tour came by my mountain. I loved it but it sucked that you couldn't throw backflips on it.

I'm in your same position skill wise. Too much of a puss/never had a good oppertunity to try anything bigger then a 360 on snow. On tramp I can do all that fun stuff though.

Go for backflips and a few off axis spins. Fronts are hard with the angle of the jump so avoid them if you can.

Landing feels like nothing at all. Its sick.

When I went, they gave me the opportunity to upgrade my ticket. So I bought 5 jumps for like 5 dollars then I wanted to upgrade to a full day which was normally 25. I gave them 20 more and they upgraded my ticket.

Besides all the stuff all the other guys here said, I would try to wear older clothes (maybe a hoodie instead of a jacket). I got some nice holes in my pants and jacket due to landing on an airbag. Its a fun time though :D

I suck hard and landed on my head a good few times, relatively pain free & definitely helps progress. Enjoy! Probably wise to wear older gear though & +1 the no goggles comments.

Awesome! Thanks everyone for the advice, I'll let you know how it goes. Going to be up there tomorrow till sunday so I'm going to get the 25 jumps. 10/10 for everyone :)
