So basically you're asking to turn related news into threads?

Sounds harsh but does anyone avtually read those much? Most of the related news articles are old and outdated. So maybe related threads would be better suited to take that spot. Although for this to work I'd assume that the search engine MS runs would need. Mega update. Then again maybe that's why the news articles aren't the best...

Threads would have the same problem. This uses a slightly-fancier-than-search text matching algorithm which uses titles and text body to come up with a best guess. You're definitely right that the articles are contextually accurate, but not necessarily guaranteed interesting.

They actually performed pretty well in terms of getting people to read extra news. The contextual thing was great.

I think we need to go deeper though, as you'd have the exact same problem with forum threads. What we need to do is add in an element of the new rating stuff. Then, you'd have both contextually related and some guarantee of being good.

Again, this is all related around why we've been adding ratings to everything. Gives us more of an ability to ensure stuff you'll like.

What I mean is, if your answering a "binding question" thread in Gear Talk, at the end it would give threads on the same topic. Or a "chad's gap" thread or anything really. Idk just a thought! I know it would be hard to program into the site though...
