Rust spots on edges?

I've been doing a lot of rails lately and it's really making my base dirty plus I'm getting mad rust spots on my edges. I'm riding this years filthy rich. I know some are expected and I clean them with a steel wool scrubs to remove the spots but is this normal? Should I always be scrubbing edges after I ski? Oh and what's a good way to clean your base?

Wipe down your skis after you ride. And as far as cleaning bases, just a wet cloth I guess and then dry it after. Sometimes the stains are just stuck there. And get an edge tool for rust spots it works the best. And you can sharpen your own edges.

Gotta wipe your bases dry end of day. I keep my whips indoors too.

Yeah I have like a small room with a vent thingy, so i put my house at like 86 degrees when i get home, then the small room heats up and gets off all the snow. Then, I wipe down My edges. If ur too lazy, when u get home get a small cube of ski wax and wax ur edges. Should PREVENT rust. If you have rust....dont go too ham with gummy stones, u have a limited amount of edge material.... also, if the rus is super superficial, it does come off when riding.

It happens, just wipe down your skis after use, keep them indoors, and if possible in a 'dry' environment.

Also, on a side note, remember to storage wax over the summer, so you won't have rusty edges come next season.

Yeah all the rusts are superficial thankfully. After some good scrub they come off but I was just wondering if this was totally normal.

I keep my skis inside the house but don't really wipe them off. I just let them stand there but I guess I'll start wiping them down now

the rust comes off after 2 runs my man. aint nuthin to worry about during the season. when you put em away for the year make sure they are bone dry though.

you could wipe them down, I just split them up for the drive home so they can dry without the bases touching

just looked at mine and they are rusted, but does it even matter? once i hit snow next season it'll just come off right?

for park skis it doesn't matter. you'll crack edges and get rid of em before the rust would actually start affecting the edges.

for pow skis I'd wipe them clean after every use and store in a drier area, because the rust will definitely eat away at them overtime (if you're planning on keeping them a while)

I used to get rust on my ski edges, thought it mattered so I used to wipe them down after each day with a dry cloth, they'd still rust so I just stopped after a couple of times, didn't really matter anyway.

Now I never wipe them, they never rust at all.

wax your bases before this though! storing skis where it's bone dry without waxing em first isn't the greatest for bases.


also I don't know if anyone's tried this, but after the season is over maybe just wax your skies but don't scrape them. so the edges still have wax on them and the bases are completely covered. then it's pretty much capped under wax and no moisture should be able to get in/out. I guess if you're really worried about performance this might be a good idea. or if you live somewhere really humid.

a gummy stone is good for de tuning your edges but if you have a lot of rust on your edges it will become very tedious.  You need something that you can put a little more elbow greese into like a course cleaning or brillo pad.

youre asking the wrong people.... ns members dont know shit about how to take care of their skis.

go to your local shop, and talk to a tech.

denatured alcohol will clean the shit out ya bases. and wipe your skis when you're done riding. store them in a cool dry place, indoors. and when stored, rub a bar of wax on your edges to keep them moisturized.

bahahaha, most of the time it's the complete opposite, there's only 1 person in britain that I'd actually trust over newschoolers combined, simply because you'll get multiple responses and if you have common sense you can figure out which is right.

Denatured alcohol will clean the shout out of your bases but it will also take all the wax out of your bases. So if you never wax your skis, don't do this.

Steel wool is made out of much softer steel then your edges it probably wont actually have that negative of an effect.  Also it is a much better option then to just let your ski rust.  especially if they are your park skis.

Usually if you're spraying down your bases with any sort of cleaner, you're going to need to go ahead and wax them anyway. So that was pretty much implied. Good call tho

i just dont do shit, i let tham sit, they work fine, theyre skis, use them for the season and then get a new pair 2 years or so from now. just let it go

buy yourself a fucking gummy or diamond stone and don't be a lazy fuck. wipe your skis down. I use my shirt sleeve. and wax every now and then.
