He is. Most people listening to his music have no idea his first three albums exist. He went from just not giving a fuck to collaborating with rhianna. Sorry but when he has millions of fans all over the world and half of them dont know his best material, i would call it overrated.
He is overrated for collaborating with Rhihanna and creating hugely popular hits and crossing over to the mainstream where the money is, while also being one of the greatest lyricists of all time and having a huge following from his first few albums that were so controversial that everyone knows his name?
I'd call that talent but call it what you will, like I said this isn't an argument either of us wil win so carry on.
One reason Biggie Smalls is overrated is because he only had the time to make 2 albums, he never tainted his career with any "bad" music, the same way money other artists had. A lot of people believe that if say Nas had died after dropping his second album, he would've seen the same praise as Notorious, but of course he didn't, and he went on to release the album that many believe ruined his career, Nastradamus. Now the question is that if Biggie Smalls were still alive, would his quality of music deppreciate over the years?
Probably yes.
In the words of Jadakiss from the song Shootouts: "Controversy sells, but it ain't like death".
....... Reasonable Doubt, The Black Album, and The Blueprint alone make any respect he gets completely deserved. Combined with the fact that he's also done tons of other good albums/been featured on incredible songs. plus the fact that you think the other two most overrated rappers of all time are biggie and eminem makes me believe that you might not know the definition of the word overrated......
especially with people like wayne and drake getting all sorts of hype
