Pledge of Allegiance

What do you guys think of the ruling? ALthough I believe in God, I think it makes perfect sense and I've always wondered how all the mention of God by the government was not unconstitutional. I think it's a bad situation when no politian would dare speak out in support of this decision for the risk of being declared unpatriotic. I for one, have no idea what God and patriotism have to do with one another. Thomas Jefferson was a very religious man, yet he spent so much time and effort into Virgina Statue for Religious Freedom. This country was founded on the basis of the separation of church and state. The phrase 'Under God' is a Cold War relic that has no place in public schools. But then again it's not a big deal and there are bigger issues we should be concerned with, so who cares.

this whole thing could lead to many other things..what about our money-in god we trust..this could be a never ending fight. i think they should leave it though. this nation was founded under god so why not leave it that way?

Just a thought to anyone who disagrees with the ruling...

What if we were saying, in Allah we trust, after september 11th? I think there would be a whole bunch of people that would be very up in arms, and would say we were supporting terrorism.

Religion has no place in government. Thats all there is to it.

im totally for the ruling, i think religion is taking over our schools and being a child with parents of different relgions resulting in the fact that i follow no religion, it always puts me a weird position and i hate it

Yeah I also believe in God, I'm a Jesus Freak as you could say, but is cool guys.
Leave this subject alone, there's so much curruptness.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH: You can speak you mind about anything, yeah right, we can't talk about religion in school, thats def. freedom of speech, and the people against talking about relgion in school are the ones that made this 'horrible phrase' unconstitutional

This is really pitiful, the teachers and crap wanna teach us that everything is right, you can believe whatever u wanna believe, it's time people had some character and stood up for what they believe in. Not everything can be right, but there is something right for everything

'Religion is taking over our schools'..more like religion is being taken away from our schools. that quote is very inaccurate..when my parents were in school they prayed before class and had a bible lesson..im not condoning this but i am clearing up that quote b/c that is very inaccurate.

dude, it's all bull shit, i jsut ahd this talk with my sis. i believe people should believe in whatever they want....as long as it's not forced apon them. now it is good that kids understand god and how seriously people take thaqt shit. however in school people aren't sitting there trying to press them to believe in it, because every single teacher is aware of the rules of religion and school. everytime this issue has come up in class it was dealt with nicely. 'it's not my opinions that i teach......i jsut teach the book....' most teachers handle it well. now if someone was sitting there going 'you believe in god little girl don't you?.....you don't, but our nation was based on it, you must believe in it....blah blah blah' it would be worse. it really isn't that big of a deal, im glad they actually settled the issue of it, but no one should make a big deal about it. we all knew it would eventually be brought up, now all the little kiddies in the future won't have to deal with it. i believe things with religion and state will be solve in a couple generations.....people are getting smarter and less hypocritical.....soon things will be better, everyone jsut needs to relax and let shit happen, who cares about the traditional ways....our nation is still being formed

i have more of a problem pledging allegiance to an inanimate object, or for that matter, a country, b/c a country changes. how can you pledge allegiance to something that you disagree with or that changes all the time.
i also think that God's name needs to stay in the pledge, no matter how many times an activist group changes history so they dont feel bad, our country was founded by the founding fathers to be under God, or more specifically, the god of Christianity.

oh, and svhucker, the separation of church and state means there will be no official state religion. ex: anglican church in england, islam in certian mideastern countries, christianity in the late roman empire, etc...) 'under God' establishes no religion that must be followed or else you will be arrested or executed

i agree with the ruling, but i do beleive that they should have something to take its place. You should still have a plege in schools. there should be something so you can show your respect everyday. I am sick off all the kids who dont even stand up for the plege at school, they should show some respect. they should be lucky they are living in this country and not some shit hole where you have no rights.

aggro - separation of church and state means not only what you said, but also that the government cannot endorse a certain religion. That's what this decision says the pledge does.

Peeps say that Religion has no place in politics. Well if you look back a wee way, even 100 years, religion WAS politics. Now that there is a lot of segmentation and conflict between different religions and beliefs then yeah, it is something that should be thought about coz it's going to get harder and harder to agree on stuff.

Believing in Jesus is like Believing in Santa Claus. It is a terrible idea to allow religion to be a part of politics, schools, and any other national major events.

Most wars start because one religion trys to push their ideals and beliefs on others. the wold would be a much better place if religions and beliefs stayed in homes and as a family based practice. Keep you beliefs to yourself and those who are close to you.

yeah but whos to say that the bible is a true history book? it was the first recorded history, or so they say, it skips alot of generations from the end of the bible to the next recorded history, so whos to say that it wasnt really written by some freak on peyote back in midevil days?
