Anyone on here have their CCP? If so, what model/caliber firearm do you carry and how was your experience with the class if you took it, I am looking into getting mine soon. Thanks

2 seconds is plenty of time if you're close by to attack him before he can reload. 2 seconds is also plenty of time to get out of a door and escape.


also 2 seconds is fast for something like an AR-15. 3 seconds is more likely. even more time.

We shouldn't be arguing about how long it takes to reload because a magazine ban would never prevent a criminal from getting his hands on a 30 round magazine.  There are millions of magazines over 10 rounds so you can't honestly think a ban on the future production of magazines over 10 rounds would have any effect.  If they are crazy enough to do such a thing they will find a way to get their hands on one. 

Regarding a shooting I highly doubt the first thing that runs through your mind during a hypothetical shooting spree would be to wait for him to reload so you can jump on him.  You are going to be going oh shit I hope this isn't my last day.   Going back to chicken's vendetta against CC, people who carry for self defense aren't going around like the wild west and shooting up places at the first opportunity.   Here's a great example.

To obtain a CC permit you have to pass a firearm safety course and this is evident it had a positive effect as the kid carrying was aware of what was behind his target and didn't fire.

AMEN.  Most likely you will be running for your life or begging not to be killed. Seriously doubt you would have enough wits about you to react. I even train to put myself in high stress situations but there is no garentee ill be able to react well enough. I hope Im able to protect myself, and I prepare myself as much as possible but thats all you can do at this stage of the game.

And I also think it's pointless to argue agains banning guns and magazines. THere are BILLIONS and billions of both and it would impossible to do. It blows my mind when people think this is acutally possible. It would be like saying we're banning cell phones ha. Except guns cost way more and people would actually use them to fight back against the ban.

have you ever been in a gun fight? most people do freeze. a some people just get pumped full of adrenaline ready to do anything. a lot of people would be able to seize the opportunity to escape given the chance. and a reload is plenty of chance if you're near a door.

so IF you're a person that doesn't freeze, and IF the shooter is using a regulated magazine, and IF you're 100% sure that the clip is empty the exact microsecond that it becomes empty, and IF you happen to be near a door, then you MIGHT be able to escape the situation in the 2-3 seconds you have between reloads. I'm sorry, but it doesn't sound like this is a very effective measure.

if you go about your life worrying about this then you might as well not even go outside. chances of dying in a car crash, airplane crash, suicide bombing, getting kicked by a camel, gored by a porcupine, etc are all much higher.

finally you were of some use. looked into the whole getting a permit if you work up north, all you need to do is be a licensed trapper and apply for the authorization to carry a restricted firearm and prohibited handgun. My dad still has his old conibears, I might have to "start a trapline" then I can carry a handgun when I go camping and not have to deal with as many of the bullshit rules Canada has.

and also, licensed trappers don't need the stupid snowmobile safety course. fuck that I don't need a course to tell me how to drive a snowmobile safely. I've been riding alone in the bush since I was 6.

80% of the camping I do is solo camping either hiking or kayaking, where a shotgun or any rifle is too big and cumbersome to carry. Try carrying a riffle and a fully loaded pack. Second of all, it wouldn't fit in my kayak dry hatches, and I certainly wouldn't strap it to the outside of my kayak.

The rest of the time I'm either on a skidoo or in a boat where a rifle is a little easier to carry, but still a pain in the ass no less.

And other campers are probably going to be a little less enviting when you roll up with a rifle slung across your back, with a handgun its out of sight and out of mind but there if you need it.

What the fuck happened to Canadians, 100 years ago the majority of rural residents had at least several guns at home.

Hell, even 40 years ago, my dad bought his first gun, a .22-250 when he was 12 or 13 and biked home with it slung across his back without a problem. Now, kids cant even play with cap guns without having some dumb fuck call the cops cause they heard gun shot and see two kids playing in the street. It was on the news not to long ago, 3 cop cars pulled up and had guns drawn on two scared little kids wielding cap guns

If the robber was using a weapon what are your thoughts?  I thought you were against carrying a gun so why would it matter to you if he was threatening him with a weapon or not?

against bears, not as effective against a pack of wolves. And if you happen to need to be able to take down game to eat and survive, good luck with your bear spray.

And a responsible gun owner wold make sure of their shot before taking it, but there is stupid people out there. I usually have at least something brightly colored on me

There is no way to use the rifle strap. You need to attach it to the pack itself, making it difficult to get at quickly if need be.

also you'd have to be a damned idiot to get into a situation where you'd have to resort to hunting for survival. clearly not someone who should be alone in the wilderness.

everyone knows you bring fishing line + lures. fastest, easiest way of getting quick protein. and the meat is safest provided you for some reason don't have the ability to start a fire.

60lbs might be a little over exaggerated, although ive never actually weighed my pack, id guess closer to 40-45, but then add the weight of the gun to it. it does add up over a long hike

done it before. Strapped to the pack can be accessed fast enough for any situation where you should be grabbing a gun over your spray.

I believe those stats to be false. 7 or 8 years ago someone was killed on site by a wolf. Northern Sask has a relatively high wolf population and has increased in recent years from high snowfall. I'm not particularly afraid of wolves or bears (brown, black) and have been face to face with several single wolves and bears. Its a wolf pack id be more worried about, and if they are hungry you never know what they are capable of.

I know a lot of the surrounding lakes especially the one I camp at most frequently, and fishing isn't always possible from shore, although I often have my kayak, and I do always have a break down rod and hooks. I am considering adding a mini spear gun and pocket mask to my kayak gear cause its always easy, and fun to spear a fish or dive for fresh water mussels (go ahead and call me out if you want, but I'm fucking right I do it all the time)

I also carry some small snares, because we have a lot of rabbits which are a quick source of protein.

And your point about me having to be an idiot to get myself into a situation where id have to resort to a hunting rifle? Jesus fuck man, ANYTHING could happen, its about being PREPARED. A lot can happen in the bush.

ex: how well do your hooks and line work when there is 4+ feet of ice between you and your fish? When would that happen you ask? I'll through out the first scenario that comes to mind, skidooing up north, break down, no cell service, its cold, you're hungry, at least with a rifle or handgun you have the chance to shoot something.

warning shots are often enough and found to be almost as effective against bears (brown and black) as bear spray. BUT Canada is massive and has a lot of different wildlife, so what works in some places on some animals wont necessarily be the case on others. Even the same animal exposed to a different environment, like closer human contact will be different then others in the deep woods.

Strapped to your pack you'd have to undo your straps, drop your pack, unstrap your gun, shoulder your gun, sight it up on your target and take the shot

vs.

being able to keep your pack on, simply grab your handgun and take the shot.

you could grab a handgun as quickly as a can of bear spray.

and if you're skidooing then there's absolutely no problem with carrying a rifle or shotgun.

but open carry doesnt require a class... But lets say they did, what is the difference to you in open carry vs concealed as to why you would prefer that method of carrying.  Both are carrying a gun, the only difference I can see is that open carry will probably make the people around you uncomfortable.

Im just not following your reason here I guess.

first sentence is not true.

you can grab a handgun as fast as spray, but you can't aim and hit the bear as fast and the chance of hitting it in the right spot is slim. Spray is guaranteed to hit the bear.

also you need to rig up your back better if you can't grab your gun without dropping your pack.

regardless, you'll be able to grab a handgun quicker then a rifle strapped to a back. You can't argue that. You also missed the fact that it's going to add 6-8lbs to your pack, which adds up.


What do you use to Cary your rifle? my pack doesn't have a holder and I've yet to see a good add on one that holds the rifel secure while still leaving it easily accessible. As soon as you try and go off the oath they are getting hung up and branches and falling out.

and one of my reasons for not wanting to carry a rifle is walking up to someone else who's out camping, might not be as welcoming if they see a hunting rifle strapped to my pack.

Well it's not stupid it's true. Most of the general public would be a little uncomfortable walking in a store and seeing someone carrying a gun on their hip. Sure people know others are concealed carrying but that doesnt mean they want to see it.  And for you to just say it's stupid without having a real argument and just saying your opinion, well I think thats stupid. IM trying to have you explain things and at least in an arguement when someone presents a better point than mine I can accept that, you cant. Thats cool tho just keep ranting.

I do agree tho I think it would be stupid to be afraid of a displayed one and not a concealed one.  They are the same, one has a shirt hanging over one doesnt ha.  So why you do thing it's better to open carry than concealed carry..? Again no required training, permit, nothing.

my buddy who's a guide in alaska carries a 44 mag on him basically for that purpose, he's never been charged by a bear but used it many times to scare them off when they start getting aggressive and/or close.
