Anyone on here have their CCP? If so, what model/caliber firearm do you carry and how was your experience with the class if you took it, I am looking into getting mine soon. Thanks
I carry a ruger LCP .380 if im going somewhere i dont feel comfortable. I have carried my ruger P95 as well but its definitely a lot more gun to lug around.
inb4 some brat who knows nothing about guns rips on the .380
Although it's not required in Alaska, I've got mine (for multiple reasons: so that I may concealed carry in other states, and because I'm NICS exempt, which means that I don't have to wait for a background check every time). I loved the class! I'm great friends with the instructors, so the shooting portion of the exam was more like just tactical practice (in -20 degree weather, which wasn't super awesome).
I currently carry a Glock 27 (sub-compact .40) because it's small, and I'm a female... It's light and pretty small, which is convenient, but I don't enjoy shooting it much. I'm on the market for a 1911 in .45 right now, so I'll probably possess one of those in the next few months. I'm a damned good shot! :)
Ha. Have you ever taken a course? I'd guess not. The Alaska CCWP is accepted in 35 other states. So yes, having one in Alaska means I can carry one in other places.
My dad is relatively high profile in Detroit these days, and has been cornered in an elevator by a guy's wife who recently got fired. He has also received drunken phone calls from a former employee at 3 AM threatening him and our family. He carries every time he's in Detroit for this reason. What if that woman was crazy and pulled a knife/gun on him? I recently took the class, but don't have my permit yet. I probably won't carry regularly, but, like the other guy said, better to have it and not need it instead of the other way around.
Multiple friends of mine have been cornered, threatened, and sometimes beat by the scumbag asian thugs in my town, recently a friend was working and held at knifepoint by an attempted robber, I also hunt and would like It for close quarters incidents, there's a heavy wolf population around my town
My uncle. Some guy said my uncle was tailgating him on the freeway, which he probably was, but then they both get off at the same exit. The guy parks his car so my uncle can't go by. So my uncle calls the cops and the guy gets out of his car and goes back to my uncles. He opened the door and started beating the shit outa my uncle and when he let off for a second my uncle reached into the glove box and pulled out an unloaded gun to try to get the guy to stop. He came back at my uncle and my uncle showed him the clip and told him he had a gun multiple times. When the guy didnt stop my uncle shot him once and by then the cops were there.
It was a pretty big deal here in Reno. It happened on Halloween like 2 years ago. The guy ended up dying though, which really fucked with my uncle.
A couple of my friends have had knives pulled on them outside bars and I've had a gun pulled on me in Rome. It sounds like overkill (no pun) until you need it. /story
ha, I'm guessing you probably couldn't bench press me. unless you bench press like a dude. i know you're buff and all, but i don't really ever see any females benching that kind of weight.
I live in Idaho and have it. I carry a Kahr CM9. Such a small comfortable gun that I can carry no matter the clothes, or season. Thing that sucks is I spend quite a bit of time in Oregon and Washington (family) and neither of those states recognize Idaho CWP. So if I want to carry in those states ill have to get CWP for each one.
sorry for your uncle but all I got from this story is that if your uncle didnt have a gun the cops would have taken him down and he would be alive and your uncle wouldnt have to live with killing a guy.
If Someone pulled a knife on me you better believe I would be excersising my CWP. A knife can REALLY mess you up or kill you. Best bring a gun to a knife fight. Even then ive seen some reports from police who have been killed by people with a knife when they were trying to draw their gun.
If I got a gun/knife pulled on me while I was carrying and felt my life was in immediate danger, you bet your ass I would shoot them if I had a chance to do so. I'm sure he would do the same. That's the whole point. My life is more valuable than some crazy, drunk fuck who thinks it's ok to threaten someone with a weapon.
right. you get a gun pulled on you and you're fast enough to take out your gun, load it, and shoot them all before they have the time to pull the trigger. riiiiiiggghht.
you'd have a better chance of surviving not reaching for a gun and being calm and talking them out of whatever they're doing.
also chances are you're getting robbed. in which case if you are unarmed you will not get hurt. if you are armed and have a go for your weapon you WILL get hurt.
and then even if you didn't reach for your gun and defused the situation through being calm and talking, would you then shoot them in the back as they left? cause then that's no longer self defence but murder
Although the chances of "needing" to CC are extremely slim, it typically doesn't negatively impact our society and we shouldn't oppose advanced education in the world of firearms. You also get discounts and such at a lot of ranges/shops, so there is a benefit outside of the "I'm gonna get fucking mugged today" attitude. Lots of people take the classes because they are interesting and fun as well.
Note how I said, "IF I HAD THE CHANCE TO DO SO." Obviously, unless you're an idiot, your first move is not going to be to blatantly reach for your pistol if someone has theirs pointed at your head. A knife is a different story. If someone brings a knife to a gunfight...well, you know how that ends.
I happen to practice a whole lot with drawing my firearm and shooting. And I try to put myself in stressfull situations to simulate a real life situation. I have it down to less that 1.5 seconds where I step aside, draw and shoot 2 rounds in a 4" spread from 15' and closer. So yes I do feel like I could. Also I WOULD NEVER attempt to pull out my weapon if I wasnt absolutly sure I would be able to do so safely (Id prefer not to be shot) But the reality is that those people are crazy enough to rob you or whatever they are doing with their gun they are so desperate that Im not going to wait around to see if they get spooked and fire or get pissed and fire. I will defend myself. And I would not shoot them in the back if they were walking away leaving. I would call the police. Im not police, swat or armed forces. Im not responsible for being them in a situation. Im a civilian who will defend myself, and my family if I felt like we were in situation where Serious harm or death could occur.
Maybe so, but I am not convinced that the probability that the gun wasn't necessary deems a CCP completely unwarranted. The fact that he was able to call the cops is the only reason your post holds water.
so 2 situations for needing a concealed weapon are: knife and gun.
we just ruled it as pretty much useless for a gun.
so let's go over a knife situation:
someone pulls a knife on you (no doubt to rob you). this means they are close quarters with you or a knife is not effective (unless they're a ninja and are good at knife throwing).
if you are in close quarters with someone who has a knife pulled on you are you going to have time to get your gun, load it, then shoot them?? no. you absolutely will not have time. they will stab your ass.
again, pretty useless in a situation such as this.
and the two situations I covered cover about 95% of time you'd need a gun and are already a rarity.
also let's be honest, half of people who carry a gun wouldn't even be able to shoot someone.
