Anybody tried wakesurfing?

My cousin gave me one of his sick surfboards and in the summer i ride it behind our 3 seater waverunner. Its hard to get up on, you have to start up like on a kneeboard and then stand up from there. Its so much fun to do cutbacks and shit with your feet just standing on the thing with nothing attached like in real surfing. Its also fun to wax the fuck out of the board to make your feet stick to it better. I wish i could surf in real waves but riding one behind a boat is mad fun

Its hard to get up on. You gotta get up to your knees then put one foot up on the front then stand up. It is hard for sure

1. the normal way to get up on a wakesurf is to start like you're wakeboarding with the board perpendicular to the water. since the boat will be in gear it'll hold it to your feet. then the driver "hits it" and you let the board/rope pull you up.

2. how the fuck do you surf behind a waverunner? your waste must be like 4 inches high

OP it is not possible to wakesurf behind a jetski. you need a big boat with an inboard motor and a couple people to weight one side of the boat in order to get a wave big enough to surf

They make ballasts for a reason. And it really just depends on the boats hull design. Some will put out a good wave plowing through the water before they break plane, but a wakeboat is obviously best. And yeah, theres no fucking way you could surf behind a seadoo/waverunner/PWC.

no way you're going to be able to do it behind a waverunner. we do it behind our inboards on legit surfboards all the time though. basically just going like 5 mph right off the swim platform.

Yeah OP theres no way you can do it behind a waverunner, the wake it makes simply isn't big enough. As far as actually getting up on the board dont try and stand up from your knees, (I tried it for a long time, and its hard as shit) Instead put your heels on the edge of the board and ask the driver to pull you as slow as the boat will go. Push down with your heels on the board and it will rotate up onto your feet, from then on its exactly like a wakeboard, only slower. Find a bro with a mastercraft, tige, supra, almost anything with an inboard and go try it. We surf all summer behind our 21' mastercraft and its literally one of the easiest and relaxing things to do behind a boat once you get the hang of it, almost no effort required to ride the wake except staying in the good spot of the wake.

Wakesurfing is so much fun. Weigh down the boat with some fat sacks and start shredding. We got bored one day and tried it on a jet ski. We Put like 300 in weights on the back tied down and sunk the thing down like two feet. We could only surf with a standup paddle board and it kept on smacking into the back of the jet ski.

I wakesurf all the time in the summer. A few things...

1. Getting up is just like getting up on a wakeboard or wakeskate - there is no laying down involved. I don't even know what prompted you to try this, OP.

2. If you're getting pulled along behind a Jet Ski, you're not wakesurfing, you're just wakeskating on an awkwardly large board.

3. To the guy who said his buddy's Supra puts out a "five foot wake" with two people in the boat - no, it doesn't. We load our X-Star with the stock ballast, a 750 pound fat sack in the port rear, a 350 pound (I think) in the bow, and have anywhere from 3-7 people on the boat when we surf. We've put the rub rails in the water on butter days (I do not recommend this, FYI) and the wake only gets about waist high at the max. You're full of shit.

Last summer my friend and I got a mini surf board and towed each other behind his 14' aluminum boat with a 6hp through the marsh in my town. We had to start up the way OP said. It was ridiculously fun for how stupid it sounds. Once you got going you hardly needed the rope but the wake wasn't nearly big enough to keep you going so we just rode it like a wakeboard.

My other friend took off the bindings on his skurfboard which is a hell of a lot of fun. It feels like longboarding through the water.

Wake surfing is awesome! Some friends and I do it a lot! We use our surfboards, but I also acquired 2 actual wake surfboards like two summers ago. U really wanna get good at it this summer.

Word. We have a 2001 prostar 205-v, the xstar without ballast. Got a 700 pound fat sack, all of my friends, and two garbage bags full of water and it was a blast.

Wakesurfing is super fun and relaxing, but nothing pissed me off more when the water is glassy in one area of the lake and im trying to go for a nice ski or ride there and some asshole comes and ruins the water with boat chop. you dont need calm water to surf, i dont see how people cant understand that.

agree with this. I had my dads friend pull me on my stomach, like holding onto the rope and he pulled me on my stumach, it hurt sometimes but once you go fast enough you can like sit on the water and dive in super deep its cool.

ive wakesurfed with an actual wakesurfing board and a skim board before, skim boards can be a little squirrely but theyre fun. I have wakeboarded off a waverunner and my friend has tried to wakesurf off of one but it has never worked. im probably working up in vermont on a lake with a boat rental company that rents out ridiculous mastercrafts and i cant wait to wakesurf off of his X25

completely agree on number 1, and I do it behind a seadoo, also a three seater. My neighbors actually have one with a ballast system haha. Anyways, because we still have an inboard outboard boat, it isn't all that safe to get super close to it, and we can use a much shorter rope on the seadoo. The wake is low, so we just hold onto the rope the whole time and carve/do some surface tricks. I think its really fun, and behind our seadoo, I like it more than wakeboarding. I am also not at all good at it, I can basically just ride, and I've landed a few shuv its, but I usually wash out. Still is really fun to just cruise around on tho, but I really want to try it behind a "wake boarding" boat with a full ballast system. I bet that would be really fun

Agreed, but you don't have to wait for a good swell to surf behind the boat; you can do it everyday. Plus, it's a never ending wave which is also awesome. Lastly, you can drink a beer while you're doing it.

Wake surfing definitely has its advantages.

Here is a video of myself last summer. This is on an '85 Mastercraft, which is a skiing boat. We just load on the people and it works well enough. This is my first time trying to kneeboard while surfing haha.
