Converting 60p footage to interlaced 29.97 fps

Does anyone know the best way to do this? Long story short, I have footage that was shot in 60p, but needs to be changed over to 29.97 frames per second and interlaced instead of progressive. I've looked into it, but I haven't found any clear answers.

Is it considered 30i or 60i? I also can't find a clear answer on that. I've seen the same stuff referred to as 30i and 60i. I want a frame rate of 29.97 and some say that is 60i because it is 60 fields, but 30 frames. And others say the 29.97 interlaced is simply called 30i.

Also, it HAS to be 29.97 and interlaced, those are the requirements for the end use of these files so if it doesn't make sense to do this, I'm not the one requesting it, just trying to get the job done that is being asked of me.

Can this be done with Mpeg streamclip? Can I just export out of FCP and modify some export settings? Does this need to be done in After Effects?

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

One more thing. The clips need to be at normal speed. I can't have them slowed down such as conforming 60p to 24p for smooth slow mo. I just need normal speed 60p to normal speed 29.97 interlaced.

Personally I don't. I think it looks wack as fuck and so far it has been a pain the ass to try to figure out the proper conversion. It's what the TV stations are requesting as this will be airing on TV.

Im not in front of my computer, but i think you can go to interlaced using MPEG Streamclip, then conforn using Cinema Tools. However, im not positive......

Sounds like an old school TV station, the local stations around here (salt lake city) you can submit 1080p 29.97fps h264 files but it sounds like this studio is still rocking tapes haha


you should be able to export 1080i60 from whatever program you are in, HDV or some other "HD" setting should allow for it

You could also try a program called JES Deinterlacer. I've used it for deinterlancing but I'm pretty sure it can reverse it too.

I just got off the phone with a few other stations and they will accept 720p. Fuck yeah! That saves a headache. I thought it was dumb as fuck that others were requesting interlaced... it's like taking a perfect rubber wheel from modern day technology and trying to turn that into a stone wheel. Why!?
