Are you guys working with Windows phone capability at all? The back button on the phone doesn't work with NS and I constantly get logged out.

I also think that there should be some way for news to be uploaded directly to the front page. I understand that its super easy to access it for the people who care (like me) but news go mostly over looked now.

I liked the constant competetion recaps etc... on the front page from site admins.

A notification system. Like if someone quotes you in a thread somewhere you get a notification next to your "message inbox". Being able to quote someone in the comments of the video section would be cool too.



When you're viewing a list of threads in a particular forum and you move the mouse over a thread title, it would be helpful to show the 1st sentence of the LAST reply in a small popup window without having to go into the thread to see it. I think this is pretty helpful on other sites.



Then maybe have a mouse-over popup in the thread-list somewhere to show the first sentence or two of the ORIGINAL post. This way you're not wasting your time with pointless threads.

Inbox notification when someone friends you... Make it so they can't spam you though by just de-friending then friending you.

Notification when quoted and friended.

Tags for sell and trade to make it easier to find certain items (yes I know :newschoolers: works) but why not make the searchbar more useful.

Unless this is under the karma chart thing, a top 25 karma chart for the month (so you can see who's in the lead for member of the month)

But optional. Anything notification wise should be optional. I really don't care if someone friends me, truthfully. And I don't want to have to be bypassing notifications every time I log on.

But on the picture, video, blog section makes more sense.

agreed. no reason for the friend notification.

I do think there should be one for quoting, but it could get really annoying depending on the thread and what gets quoted i guess

Please keep this to forum-specific suggestions. We can start another thread about other things around the site.

Also, please use the up/down voting to agree/disagree with suggestions others make. This will help us see what order the suggestions go in.

Please really feel free to moon shot this, and discuss absolutely anything that annoys you. In about a month's time, we're going to rip the forums apart and re-build them from scratch so the world is our oyster.

That was a change with the upgrade I think. Originally it was one box and you could remove whatever you wanted, just not change word order. Hilarity would ensure if you could manage to make someone say something other than they wrote.

definitely like the idea of quoting being condensed into 1 box.

my 1 request is that the basic structure of the forum be kept the same. I'm looking forward to the changes, but I'm worried about it becoming unrecognizable, and ease of use is one the strongest things this forum has going for it.

And this is a trivial matter, but I like it when you click a button online if it appears to actually be "pushed" so to speak. With ns sometimes I click, and nothing happens so I can't tell if I've replied and it's taking awhile to load, or if it froze. With a nice push button, no question.

Yep, what I said. Originally you could do that.

Then they changed it to the double box (sometime around that big upgrade).

And back then you could also take out words in any section of the post (if you check now you can only highlight one section and delete, not highlight - delete - highlight something else - delete) so you could mess with someone's post. I'm surprised you're not remembering this.

Yeah sorry, this is just one of those totally legacy things that seemed like a good way to do it back when it was built. You gotta remember that the intertubes was a drastically different thing back in 2005. :) Facebook wasn't even a thing, there was absolutely no smartphones, and not everyone even had high speed internet.

This will be ripped out and improved for sure.

A Multiquote feature and new Search... but honestly i think the forums are set up very well, layout is clean, user friendly, and the "Home Page" is put together beautifully. I'm not saying keep it all the same, but be careful about revamping everything, don't fix what's not broken.


I like the idea of being able to turn "on" or "off" certain features in the forums. Give the user the option to use it or not. Off topic, but i really like the "Preview" button when u reply... don't take that away. Have a few other ideas i'll bounce off u later.

And Bishop said they want to and it's one of the reasons they implemented the up and down voting system.

Yes, message history would be awesome on mobile.

And with what elgato said about quoting videos, either require text to be typed in before you can place the embed or what elgato suggested

Please give us post editing tools in gear talk and some other sections. Multi quotes to. I can't think of how many times I've needed to edit or revise some of my posts while helping out a member in gear talk, then needed to change it in the future because you've learned something new, or just screwed up a post. If not handout some new coloured names to like Rowen, Bwalmer, Onenerdykid, guys who are doing that lots... More mobile support for tablets and phones and apple iOS would be nice to.

Collapsed/minimized images/media when quoted.


Many forums, if you quote someone who has posted images etc, in order to view quoted media you click a little button and their quote expands. This would solve the scrollbombing issues.

Also, instead of a review section that's pretty hidden and hardly used, could we add a review forum? I've seen a few reviews pop up in GT as of late and they are way more easy to follow through IMO. The only thing that reviews have going for them is the ability to see additional products. A forum style review would also allow members to ask questions and be more involved as opposed to a comments section, and the reviewer could give updates as the thread goes and this would allow members to see the initial opinion, and opinion progression all the way to the current opinion. The 'gear' tab beside 'contests' could go all together as GT, S/T are already accessible if we did this and clean up that bar of a somewhat useless button. I feel like having a full review forum would purge GT of sooo many "er mah gerd saga anomie vs virtika v3" and "afterbang vs dps spoooooonsss" threads. People make these because they don't ever go looking at reviews in the first place. Those suffocate the good discussions that actually happen in gear talk IMO. Hopefully that all makes sense, kind of clusterfucked but I'm typing this all on an iPad... And if the posting from an iPad eliminates paragraph spacing then please, fix that too...

I've kind of said this before, but instead of a thread rating as positive or negative, there should be an "original post" rating and an "overall thread rating" or maybe "average comment rating to try to accurately see the quality of the thread. Or maybe a "controversy" rating for a lot of up and downvoted comments

Message history on mobile, friends on mobile, or even just being able to hit the full site on mobile, why has it been blocked?

perhaps having WTB in the title of B/S/T threads could have it alert a mod/automoved to WTB?

This is so crucial it's actually ridiculous, have "my threads" listed by date of last post! there's something weird there.


There's Many updates outside of the forums would help so much too.

Another handy feature would be a way to 'save' mega posts while making them. Sometimes I'm in the middle of making a really detailed post for the ski building thread or somehwhere in GT, who knows, and then for some reason, I accidentally click exit on the tab, or click on forums or something, FUUUUUUU. Next thing you know 20 minutes worth of typing and editing (yeah I do that on big posts, deal with it) is GONE.

Could be a button for that somewhere in the 'post reply' area. As soon as you bring the text out from some form of menu, use it, and make your post, it removes it from the 'saved posts' database or whatever (I don't know computers...) and it would only maybe have to save posts for 24 hours so that the server wasn't getting full of these saved posts that never get posted.

Does that even make sense?
