Waist width on skis

might be a dumbass question


is there like a huge difference between waist widths like 88mm and 82mm? or like 95mm and 90mm?

is there a huge difference ik there is when its like 115mm and 90mm

but for park skis in there a big difference

A difference of 4-5 mm.

but seriously, no i don't think so.
I rode 80mm waist width skis for 2 years then i got some that were 92mm and i was fine..

being "fine" and there being a difference are two completely different things. Just because you can handle the ski does not mean there is not a difference. Going to a wider ski will carve different, ski different in the woods, require more lean over possibly to change direction on rails. My 86mm waist Dead Moneys ski completely different from my 110mm waist Sickles but i can ski "fine" on them.

If you are doing a lot of park, stick with something under 90mm. If you split your time between park and all mountain,woods,etc.. get something between 90-98. While i can still spin off jumps and hit rails on my 110s, they really are more at home in the woods and powder.

If your a bigger guy like me you might appericiate something wider in the waist. I have no problems rolling over a 90 waist ski and i find that they support me better coming from a 80 waist ski.

The waist is only part of the equation. If it only a 5 mm difference in the whole ski its not a huge difference. If the tip is 10 mm different and the underfoot is 5 mm and the tail is 12 mm, that can make a big difference in how the ski rides. Radius is another tool to give you an idea how fast the ski will come around. I would not read too much into it all. Yes take a look and get an idea what kind of ski you are looking for them try them. Enjoy, its just sliding on snow with stick stuck to your feet.
