Have fun at Drunken State! I go to the fort but I went up there with a few friends and my room to visit his friend and ski monarch. The impression I got was; they party all the time because there isn't anything else to do in that town. It's really cold, like -40f (I don't mind), and the town just doesn't have the money that Durango, Denver, or Boulder have.

I like it here in Durango, but I will definitely go visit Western again. Everyone there is SUPER friendly and a lot of fun to party with. Have fun and be safe!

I go to Western, cool place that is 30 minutes free bus ride from crested butte. Anyone that says there isn't a lot to do here is stupid, tons to do outdoors, if you like shopping and eating out everyday than don't come to gunnison. Awesome fly fishing, lots of biking, hiking, camping opportunities, kayaking, rafting, three Frisbee golf courses. Crested butte is an awesome mountain to ride at, so is monarch (about 40 min away,) The girl to guy ratio isn't the best here, but it is getting better and next year there will probably be even more new girls. They are also building a new field house at school which is going to be awesome and have tramps and what not. Also, in crested butte south, which is about 20 minutes from gunnison, they are building a woodward type facility with indoor ski ramps and tramps and skate parks, which is gonna be sweet! It's definitely a small town feel but everyone here is really nice, besides the wrestlers, and it's always a good time.

I go to Western too, bottom line - this place is rad. If your bored and can't find something to do then you should probably get off your xbox and out of your dorm room. Gunnison/Crested Butte has non-stop stuff to do as mentioned above. Then, you've got skiing the butte: steepest, most technical, most challenging, terrain with lift access in the state of Colorado without a doubt and its only 35 mins from campus via drive or the free bus that runs 8 times up and back a day. All the other Colorado schools claim they are "close to the skiing" - far from it, unless you consider I70 traffic or hot laps at Purgatory your best day skiing this year. Come check us out if you haven't, come here as a student if you have.

p.s. the only reason you should worry about the girl to guy ratio is that the girls can ski just as good as you can - get over it, it aint that bad

yeah like mentioned above, girl to guy ratio isn't that terrible, just more guys than girls is all. and alot of the girls rip which is awesome. I have a girlfriend here, so it's not like there are any girls

I was out at USCSA nationals and rode with some kids from WSCU they were cool, if that helps any, seems like a pretty awesome school, too bad I'm graduating so soon

I spent Last summer in Gunnison. Such a sick town. Yeah they dont have it built like denver or Ft. Collins or Durango, but thats why it's better. Tried to get my old summer job but got a job offer in AK.

Don't listen to the haters. If you like the outdoors you'll love Gunnison. If you want a true ski town feel, Crest butte is about good as it gets. Limited tourist, Bigmnt terrian, solid park. Season pass is expensive even with student discount.

I'd only get a Monarch pass to ski powder. It has some sick as pow days. Other than that, the skiing is only mediocre. It's a very small resort with little crowds which is nice too.

this makes me really sad. i was about 2 weeks away from going here 3 years ago. Instead i took the easy and cheap rout of going to southern oregon university. I wish i would have went to western state colorado soo bad. FML

You can get a cb pass for 469$ through western, you gotta purchase it by 10/25 though. That's all you need, cb is an awesome mountain and when it's a good snow year it's beyond epic!
