10 being near impossible, 1 being super easy, how difficult is it to shoot decent video using a DSLR and a steady-cam?



also,

which DSLR's would you recommend a beginner to photography and videography who will be primarily using the DSLR for shooting video?

which steady-cam would you recommend?

I would personally recommend a glidecam, I use a hd 4000. And I would probably choose a t3i/gh2 but that's just me. To shoot decent video requires practice. I thought that I could pick it up in a hour or two and it's been a whole ski season and I still think I'm a newbie. Just practice and practice I guess.

whats the difference between a glidecam and a steadycam?

A glidecam is a type of steadicam. But as far as how hard it is, I can hand my flycam (cheaper versino of glidecam) to my friends and have them film, its really not too hard. To understand the more advanced stuff with photography (like exposure and what shutter speed iso and aperture do) takes a little more time but for just basically filming they can just turn the knob and change the shutter speed until it looks good brightness on the screen. Balancing/using a glidecam/flycam is not the easiest thing in the world but once you practice it its not hard

so a steadycam and a DSLR are completely different things?

and if so, then which is more commonly used to film skiing?

A steadicam/glidecam isn't actually a camera haha (guess the name might imply that). They're just stabilizers that you put a camera on, to stabilize it/make it steady.
Most people use dslrs (at least on ns) but some people will argue that camcorders are better for the price unless you want to invest thousands of dollars into a dslr setup. With a dslr you need to get lenses and lots of extra batteries/memory cards and other accessories but a camcorder will work well even just right out of the box. A dslr with a kit lens however isn't very good so you need to spend more money on a better setup. Searchbar camcorder or dslr and theres a lot of threads about it

sounds good man...

i think i'm gonna invest in a glidecam hd1000 or hd 2000 if i can find a cheap one... and look into getting a canon T2i (as far as i hear the T3i is not much different just a bit more expensive) which is perfect cause my birthday is coming up.


lenses will come later as I get into filming

gotta buy refurbished but is this a good price or can i find the same thing for less somewhere else and if so, where?
