Replying to Never do benzos or let a doc prescribe them to you

SmotSmoke:
My friend was prescribed xanax and klonopin for anxiety attacks. When he first got the prescription all my friends and even I would tell him he shouldn't take these pills, even though they "helped" his anxiety. Well it turned from half a pil 2 times a week to daily heavy use from 4-7 months after being prescribed. (not sure how much he was taking but it was a lot draining through scripts) My friend knew he was addicted and wanted to stop useng xanex a couple moths ago. The doctor agreed to ween him so thats what happened and the withdrawals were stern so the doctor convinced my friend to taking a higher dose again sending him into a spiral. Now he is going cold turkey. I just saw him for the first time in a couple months and I thought he was a schizophrenic at first, he is straight in fucking sane. I then thought could these be xanex withdrawals? Because he had just stopped taking them.

After reading many experiences with withdrawal from xanax, lots of people stated the same sorts of stuff my friend is going through. It makes perfect sense since he is withdrawing from over half a year of benzo use. From a person who has seen the withdrawals first hand, fuck that drug. Seriously, I have no clue why this drug is on the shelves being prescribed to people. Half a pill will give anyone who has no tolerance a buzz. The drug intoxicates patients and masks their anxiety. I see it a lot like how alcoholics, or herion addicts use drugs to self medicate. Benzos are the same exact thing except withdrawal from benzos can be way worse than herion. Sometimes taking 6 or more months for someone to start feeling normal.

I think that Benzos should be taken off the shelves after seeing what kind of drug they are. Especially when doctors make money handing out prescriptions. People expect this drug to help them and in the long run it definitely makes things worse. What are your guys opinions? Should benzos be prescribed?
