World junior half pipe champion skiing for 3 months...
Saw this on APO's Facebook. So fucking depressing, like yeah good for him and its sick, but does he even like skiing? How can someone skiing for 3 months have any sort of style devloped? So for the olympics freeskiing will again, be portrayed as this robotic bullshit. Bring style back to the pipe and create a new system to judge so that the sexiest tweaked out flat 5 will beat out a ugly ass tucked dub. (just an example).
haha WOW man you dont even know Grim. He is hands down the nicest and hardest working athlete out there. he came into woodward every single day for 2 months straight just to get good. he is by far the best.
If he can dub you know he can tweak any sort of 540. Skiing and comp skiing two different things grim works hard to be good. Get out and try or just stick to safety stock 360.
Grim is tight and a nice dude but jr. worlds is a pretty small contest (especially when in italy or wherever it was this year). He hasn't done well in any major contest because of style, grabs are important to judges.
good for him that he has worked that hard to get where he is but that run had absolutely no style. those corks on 4th and 5th hit pretty much reminded me of pool diving
Whenever his skis are on the ground he flails his arms, he only looks in control in the air. This is a SKIing competition right? He can jump and spin like crazy, but he can't SKI.
All the people that complain that freeskiing is becoming aerials or that freeskiing is becoming acrobats on snow, this is what they're talking about. Kid can do insane tricks in the pipe but looks like he could be the kid falling down in the lift line at your local hill.
oh whine and bitch he is bad for the sport, he does like 8 sports and is bad ass in all of them I for one welcome him to skiing. I wish i could do 25% of what he does.
That may be so and he seems like a good guy, but why don't you put a smile on the rest of the skiing community's face by requesting that he at least grab his spins. Then we can all be happy.
This is FREEskiing. If you want to do zero grabs, 1 grab or 100 grabs in your halfpipe run then you are FREE to do that. He has no obligation whatsoever to do what NS is asking for.
I think I may have seen this guy at Keystone in late December/ early January. He was throwing pretty nice switch cork 9's (yes grabbed) and switch 5's off the largest jump. I might be stereotyping here, but he was Japanese and rocking APO, and I don't know many other skiers that do such.
Talk all the shit you want but evidently he's playing the game and doing exactly what the judges want to see. This is the "sport" we now live with. Well done to him.
While I do agree that pipe skiing should not be like this, I feel like you all are overlooking the potential he has. Sure he is not grabbing, not YET. The fact that he put this insane run together in 3 months shows that he's quick, and I'm sure he'll learn to grab. He has so much time ahead of him. Sure he might be aerials now, but I bet he will be able to learn to grab.
damn impressive but it looked like he could barely make it across the flat-bottom. Seems that he has no fundamental abilities, just can get to the top of the wall and toss himself.
but I mean, he has a theme song, so I can't say I'm not jealous.
good for him for working so hard. his style wasn't anything to brag about and i'd be much more impressed if he had even a single switch hit but thats still damn impressive, and he obviously has what it takes to get even better. anyone who hates is jealous
Grim is the MAN. He's 18 I believe. He started skiing because there wasnt enough room on the snowboard team. He used to ride with no poles, and then just pole handles, and now he rides with poles and can grab most of his tricks. And all from skiing since November or December.
I met Grim at the Park City Grand Prix. He is such a nice guy! He kills it in the air. I did see him ski down a really easy trail though, and he looked like he had absolutely NO idea what he was doing. So no he isn't the best skier. But he is way good in the air. Also, it looks like he isn't using poles. But he uses line pole grips. That's right. JUST THE GRIPS. I'm really confused on that one myself...
