I do in fact want this thread to become an argument. I'm so torn when looking for a laptop for college. At the current moment I want a windows but, the performance of the macs are always good despite their specs being questionable. (Also including the whole hipster ordeal) Which do you use? Why? Can it game well? Multitasking? What should I get? Sell me.

I have a 15 inch MacBook Pro. No complaints. I don't play computer games though. I like it better than the Windows PCs I previously owned. I really don't use my computer for anything other than the internet and word processing, so my opinion probably doesn't even count, but whatever. Haters gonna hate.

PC's will be better than macs for gaming, dollar for dollar. If you're just dicking around on the internet and what not, both will work for you.

This thread will inevitably turn into a massive shitshow. Go try both and see what you like, and buy accordingly

Build you own PC!
It is cheaper. All the parts sold individually are way cheaper than sold already built from any major retailer. Buying a computer from Dell for $1000 is essentially like buying a $700 computer with a $300 nametag.
Also yes, run Windows. Because Mac is pretty incapable unless you are a diehard arts person, in which case there is a lot of good visual editing shit, not any better than Windows, just the ease of access appeals to a lot of people.

You can get a very solid new laptop for 600 bucks these days, so I really don't see the need to spend 1,000 or more for a basic macbook. If you are planning on some serious photo or video editing, then Macs are generally more preferred.

If I was looking for a laptop right now, I'd look for a loaded ultrabook PC and probably get a great one for $750 or less.

i foolishly bought a macbook pro because i thought it'd be nicer than a pc for photo/video editing. thing is a piece of shit and makes me feel like all the dumbasses who mindlessly buy apple products just because they're apple products. never buying apple again.

I do have to say, I use OSX and iOS and love them. As a photographer, videographer, and someone design conscious, I think OSX is way way better than Windows. It's cleaner looking and functioning, it works incredibly well for what I need it to do, and I have seamless integration between my laptop, desktop, and phone.

Am I an apple fan boy? Not at all, I think they need to get their shit together (release new and innovative tech, and a new mac pro) and stop milking the consumer cow by updating current products with minor bells and whistles changes.

If a linux distro supported a decent NLE with the features I need as well as photo editing software that was a top notch performer, i'd absolutely use that instead of either. But right now I use what works and what I'm familiar with.

Tl;dr - buy what you're comfortable using and that works for your needs.
