Just how long does tuckermans stay skiable? June? Juley?
when the snowpack stays good, a small patch can usually be skied into june if you are lucky. i may get hate for this but i absolutely disagree there should be a park up there. it would be super dangerous and we dont need anymore people who shouldnt be up there going up there just to hit a rail, it is also really steep up there where the snow holds so it would be damn near impossible to build anything
This completly wrong....
It depends a lot on the snowfall but you can get a few hundred feet of vert till about halfway through June. if you really want theres usually a patch into July. Two years ago we skiied on July 5th on a patch that was probably 150 yeards long and like 100 feet of vert.
People usually build jumps over rocks and stuff till about halfway through May when the floor melts out
My favorite time to go is the last week in april through mid-may. It fucking sucks if you have to hike all the way down, skiing down is incredibly fun though. I'm pretty sure it's called the Sherburne trail but I kinda forget.
you clearly havn't skied it if you think we should put a park up there haha.
I skied it last june (the 8th i think?) after arguably the worst snowfall season in years, and there was just enough snow to take maybe 5 turns. This season I'm trying to do it late april/early may.
snowpack is really good right now, you can still ski all the way back to pinkam from either gulf of slides of the bowl. gulf of slides is really, really good right now
Check this site for daily conditions before you head up there. You might not expect it but you have to be careful with the avi danger. There are typically only shallow wet slides so you won't get buried, but they could sweep you into a crevasse.
It's basically a hole in the snow that could go down several hundred feet to rock.
As snow melts it gradually slides away from the wall of the bowl. The only way I can describe it is like putting one giant bowl inside another, and falling in between the two. Getting out is unlikely.
Of course there shouldn't be a park. Anyone who thinks so is an idiot. OP is clearly just a dumbass 12 year old parkrat who has no idea how to actually ski
I was up there Saturday so I will try to provide you with as detailed of a report as possible. First, the hike up is wet. The bottom half mile is pretty dry, but after that there is lots of running water from snow melt so please if you go do not be one of those dumb asses who wears tennis shoes, there is still snow on the hiking trail about 1/2 mile below the shelters. There is still good snow in the bowl but it is melting fast. Right gully and lobster claw are pretty much melted out from the halfway point up. Anything in the right side of the bowl I would not recommend skiing. They tell you do not go to the lunch rocks and trust me, you do not want to. I saw a piece of ice the size of a fridge break off and nearly take out three people. That being said, there is still a good amount of snow on left gully and the chute. Both are pretty bumped up, but over all the snow is not bad. You will have to plan on walking back down to Hojo's then most likely walking the entire way back to the parking lot.
