when i saw the first trailer i really wanted to see it in imax but never had the time to. saw it on the plane a few weeks ago and was pretty disappointed, amazing visually but the storyline got boring
and ya, it doesn't "put atheists in their place." it raises some interesting questions about faith, but it doesn't prove their's a god. if anything, it also shows a lot of problems with organized religion.
It was alot more straightforward and pretty short. I feel like the book did an all around better job with the story. I read the book when I was younger and thought it was ok, reread it last year and it's one of my favorites now.
It definately wasn't a type of movie that would normally interest me, but the animation was really well done, and the once the movie finnaly got rolling I didn't mind it.
I'm always apprehensive when a book that is mostly inner monologue is turned into a movie, but I felt they did a pretty good job with Life of Pi to keep me interested. They had me hooked by the end. While I felt the ending in the book was more powerful, the ending in the movie did what it was intended to I think.
I recommend that if you haven't read the book, read that before watching the movie. By the time the end of the book comes around you are fully involved and it hits you pretty hard - at least it did me when I read it.
