I was born in Virginia and I realize that the "SOUTH South" is pretty gnar, but we're just gonna be passing thru and wanna check out some culture on our way to New Orleans. Not planning on sticking around any place in particular for too long.

Any spots in AL you'd recommend checking out? Even if it were for just the shock factor?

Born in VA, and go to the University of the South haha. Besides the lack of mountains and snow, I love the south, everyone is so much friendlier than in the mid-atlantic and northeast. The food is better too, southern cooking is the shit. You should definitely try to go through the Shenandoah parkway if you're in Virginia, the Blue Ridge Mountains are pretty cool.

Monongahela National Forest in WVA is unbelievably beautiful. Also there are many place along the Appalachian trail through North and South Carolina that are pretty amazing. In West Virginia take the Cass Scenic Railroad. Luray Caverns in Virginia, is also amazing.

I live in Alabama now and contrary to popular stereotypes it is actually are really nice place to live and visit. If you're passing through North Alabama you can visit the Marshall Space Flight Center or if you like small towns Muscle Shoals is a real nice place with a blossoming music scene. If you like hiking and the out doors there are a ton of stunning waterfalls/cliffs/hikes all across North Alabama, check this site for some reference. <http://www.exploresouthernhistory.com/alabamawaterfalls.html> If you're coming through mid Alabama there are still some great parks like Mt. Cheaha (with a fantastic waterfall) and Birmingham and Tuscaloosa are fun cities with decent/good night life. If you're coming through South Alabama there are some fantastic beaches. I highly suggest you take a trip through this state with open eyes and recognize the struggles it faces as well as the many highs it has. I've also spent sometime in St.Augustine/Jacksonville Fl and Atlanta GA so if those are on your trip I'd be happy to give some advice.

Dauphin Island (just south of Mobile) has some of the nicest beaches in the continental US.

If you get into LA, I'd suggest going to Lafayette for a few days. Partying in Cajun country is a thing to behold, lots of amazing back porch bars and amazing food (amazing food everywhere..)

- this along with spending as much time as you can in New Orleans. That city exists as an anomily in the USA.. it is its own separate entity and one of the most amazing cities I've ever seen to. There is such a unique clash of cultures there. Going to some of the blues/jazz shows around fisherman's district is a must.

I really enjoyed Savannah. That city has a really vibrant arts scene and is pretty progressive. The whole downtown core is really fun to rent bikes in and rip around.

I'd maybe just suggest driving at least the gulf coast and taking it all in. Some cool towns along the way to discover.

Ah common now. After living in Co for most of my life now, I definitely do not miss the humidity of the South, but I still like to visit. My parents are from North and South Carolina and I still have tons of relatives from there.

My family lived in Miami, Florida for a year and I can honestly safe that I still hate that city. When you grow up skiing and are forced to move somewhere where there is no skiing, it sucks and nothing is going to make you love it.

Dauphin Island looks rad. And yeah, I'm definitely looking for the back porch bar type of scene, I love that shit. It's also perfect because I have a friend who lives right in downtown New Orleans so her apartment will be perfect for raging it up in the city. Too stoked for that place.

I still think that they should make these guys...

drive through Manchester, UK in cars with "Manchester United Sucks", and "British Football Players are a bunch of Marys" painted on the them. They'd be lucky to make it out alive.

Every country has national sports with crazy ass fans. I've never been a fan of Nascar or any other motor sport for that matter, but I don't hate people for being passionate about it. For me, World Cup soccer is about as fun to watch as paint drying.

Not sure of the route your taking through the south but Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA are both super cool towns on the coast. Very old architecture, great bars and restaurants, lot's of female talent, etc.

I lived in Boone, NC (northwestern part of the state) for 5 years and had a blast. Summers there are really nice, there's a lot of outdoor stuff to do. Pisgah National Forrest has some cool spots. Cruising on the Blue Ridge Parkways is always a good time if the weather's nice too. Ashville is also a cool town that has a great live music scene.

Sometimes just roadtripping and taking those random roads here and there, stopping and going hiking, and whatever else you come across is pretty fun. It depends on what you want. Seclusion or bigger attractions.

Also pin pointing an area would help. "The south" is pretty general. Can't really do much for you.

aka if there is anywhere special he will make it down to that area. Its not really that general as he gave states hes going down too, and an hour or few wont really make a big deal.

I plan on helping him if he provides more info. I have no idea what he likes.
