Prop 8 and the Defense of Marraige Act

Prop 8 (California's ban on same sex marriage) is being argued in the Supreme Court today

The constitutionality of the Defense of Marraige Act is also being contended.

Where does NS stand on this issue? Do you think there will be any short or long term effects of these decisions (other than gay people getting married)?

This is foolish and just fuels the bipartisan gridlock in America. There are democrats who are assholes in the way that they present their opinion and there are conservatives who are assholes in the way that they present their opinion. Making a generalization about which side makes more condescending arguments is pointless.This type of mentality where people think their party is superior to the other is destroying American politics.

I love the whole "it isn't natural" argument, because we are by no means the only species to exhibit homosexual behavior.

they watch these monkeys bang indiscriminately like...rabid monkeys, and then notice that they seem to fight less compared with other groups that don't bang nonstop. So then they pay closer attention over a longer period of time, and see if the theory holds true.

Not worth arguing honestly. Monkeys fucking a lot does not mean that the sex acts as a direct deterrent to violence, nor does the state of intercourse (gay, bi, etc) even hold relevant to whether there is violence amongst the population.

"Oh, this group of monkeys is much less violent when the dudes fuck dudes as opposed to the females fucking the males! Gay sex equals less violence among humans obviously!!!" No. Fuck off.

We get nowhere as a species by dudes fucking dudes. We are humans now, not primates.

I hate these stupid political threads but in 40 years (and most likely way less) gay marriage will be legalized so why not just get it out of the way today and get it over with? People protesting against it are retarded. It has no effect on their life whatsoever.

I believe the gays should have equal rights but at the end of the day I'm not gonna go protest on Pennsylvania Ave for it.

Exciting times, kind of like this generations movement. People who felt so differently only a few years ago are coming out in support. It gives me hope for humanity. Personally I'm not part of the movement because I honestly don't care; I'm 23 and single this isn't a battle I want to fight, but I'm glad someone's fighting it.
