i need a laptop for school and the internet, and it needs to be under 1300. any ideas? im looking at the ibook g4 12 inch, with 512 ram and 60 gig hard drive for 1250, but we dont have any macs so i need more options. any ideas?

well if you don't like mac's, check out HP's laptops...you can get a factory refurb laptop with a 3.06GHz pentium 4 processor, 512MB of RAM, a DVD burner, 17in Wide Screen, a nice graphics card, and built in wireless for around $1500. If you don't want all that shite then you can always go for a lower model for less money...the lower models are not bad, they just don't have a 17 inch widescreen. Mine is a zd7000, they came out with an even higher model but I can't figure out what the difference is between the zd7000 and the zd8000

id say mac. they are superior, even if they are impossible for me to operate. the only thing i dont like is not being able to right click and no start menu

no my house has no macs so all the stuff at my house might not be able to work with it, im not sure, im going to staples or comp usa soon anyways

why would it matter what else you have in your house. you can network macs too if thats your concern...

What major are you. At my college laptops are required and each department uses either mac or pc. I am a marketing and Ecommerce major and we have to use PC. All the stats programs we use in my market research classes are only for PC and i would have been pooched if i had gottena mac. The dean of the department said that PC's are what the majority of the busines world uses and the is what we need to be comfortable with. I would check it out before you buy.

actually you can right click cmd+click, its wierd at first, but i got used to it. and they also network fine with pc. as for the start menu, juts go to mac hd. thats what the music, movie, documents, apps folders are for. all it is is a start menu

well i wanna put stuff that we have on my main computer on the laptop, so i think im just gonna stay with a PC. does anybody have a dell 700 m laptop? its 1000 bucks, cheaper than most but i dont know why.

i have owned two dell laptops and one gateway tablet pc. Low end Dells are shit. my first one was low end and it last two years. My second dell has about two years on it and it's still going strong. My gateway tablet is tits, but got if for free from school to try out for a semester as a research project. I am betting i will break the swivel screen pretty quick, but being able to use a stylus to write on the screen is hot.

my dell inspiron 1000 sucks cock. My pops bought it for like 550 new, tho. It'll run photoshop just fine, tho, but no video editing whatsoever. It does have a cd burner and dvd player, tho, so I'm stoked on it. I'm just afraid it's gonna die, so I back it up every month. Battery life is shit too, like 1.5 hours. less if you're runnin a music player.
