All things snowmobiling

How difficult/expensive is it to install a long track (like 55"-60") on a previously small track sled? I can find older short track sleds dirt cheap but i want to get into sled skiing so a longer track would be preferable, and all those seem to be $2000+ more expensive than regular trail sleds.

Grew up riding every day in the winter, havent much in the past 2 years due to conditions. Where are those pics from? Looks a bit like the lakes region where I ride

I hope not. has to be about the most annoying "sport" there is. They have many practical uses though.

Whys it annoying ? because of the adrenaline rush you get blowing through trails at 65 if you're a good rider ? or because they're loud ? i wouldn't really put parenthesis around sport either because it's just as much of a sport as skiing. You mad cuz you can't afford one or something ?

if you've ever lived rural Canada near the snowmobile trails you know what I'm talking about. all times of day you hear these obnoxiously loud machines zooming by. enough to drive anyone crazy. luckily I didn't live right near one but you could certainly still hear them. Although they'd still go up and down our road occasionally which was annoying enough. all peace and quite then the most unholy sound coming down the road.

they seriously need to have noise limits on those things. that and pollution control. a good muffler certainly wouldn't go amiss.

i actually have a house on a lake where i hear people flying down the lake and a huge trail system down the road. You certainly can BARLEY hear them flying down the lake along with going to the trails. you honestly must want to hear the noise if they annoy you that bad, i don't even hear them at 12 at night. they do have "noise limits" loud exhaust tickets, same as a car. You should try riding one, it's a different story. They are FAR from what you're making them out to be.

My dad raced sleds back in the day, he bought me a 'Kitty Cat' (Arctic Cat's sled for small kids) when I was still an infant lol. Rode the shit out of it once I was big enough though, still try to hit up the Snodeo every year with him to rip on next year's sleds.

Definitely a fun alternative to skiing. Can't wait to graduate college this semester and find a good job somewhere, hopefully out west where I can eventually get my own sled and put some time and money into it!!

I have ridden them. a good amount. they can be fun. still doesn't change the fact they're annoying as fuck.

when you say you can barely hear them it's because you're inside. some of us don't stay inside all day.


also in Ontario pretty sure there are zero noise laws for snowmobiles. not that they would be enforced anyways if there were. all the trails in Ontario have a 50 km/h limit. I have yet to see a single snowmobile going less than 50 on those trails. some of them are in fields alongside roads and I the average speed they're doing is no less than 70.


also we have a pretty decent sized property (~200 acres) which I like to do a lot of cross country skiing on and what really really really ticks me off is when I go back there when after there's been snow and everything is just picture perfect and beautiful, except some dickwad decided he was going to drive everywhere with his snowmobile. yes. that bug me. and not just because they're trespassing (don't really care about that).

actully, i'm outside more than iam inside. i tend to icefish alot you're butthurt because of snowmobiles lol
