Stop polluting the picture and video sections with shitty content. Those sections aren't an archive of every picture ever, they exist for members to showcase having fun. Of the pictures by the COC account, very few of them differed from each other. I especially enjoyed the ones taken from the same hit. That's the biggest tell tale sign of pick one. Very few pictures, considering the account posted 50+ today inspire anyone to go to camp. Same goes with the video section.

It's pathetic. I would suggest deleting those pictures, videos and calling Digi Dave. Maybe he'll consult to help you fix your shitty online presence. I shouldn't have to tell you that everything under the COC account reflects the company. I hope you aren't expecting to get too many new campers from the content posted on NS lately. #fail

Agreed.

The 2nd and 3rd pages of the "Latest Photos" link ( https://www.newschoolers.com/photos/latest.0/Latest_photos%20 ) are full of uploads from CoC.

What they should of done, is upload them privately then decide which ones of the "hundreds" they uploaded to be viewable publicly.

Agree. I was trying to figure out what the setup at COC was this year and I had to sift through countless 2:00 edits of the same feature in order to find a "top to bottom" line on the rails. If there was just one slightly longer edit that I could watch that highlighted the rails, jumps, and special features, it would have been so much easier to get a feel for the camp setup in half the time.

Post one a day great. Post two a day great. Somewhere in the neighborhood of five to ten pictures in a day there is a point where it doesn't matter how epic the pictures are, fuck them all, they all suck, and the person who posts them sucks too.

i usually like looking at the latest section to see newer edits that might never make it to homepage. now i have to sit through all this shit and it is so fucking annoying.

Ok guys, isn't there a teency tiny bit of over reacting going on here?

I'm sure that the COC guys didn't maliciously intend to blast the galleries with their stuff. Admittedly we built the tools with no restrictions designed to upload massive amounts of contents to the site and publish them. Perhaps we should put some limitations on publishing, but TBH we decided that we'd just let the voting system take care of it.

Sure there was a break there where a ton of their content popped up - and they probably have learned that isn't strategically best for getting it out there - but it really was only one day.

Should we have limitations? Maybe. I for one like the idea that you can publish a lot of content, and though it affects latest added it never affects the top rated. People will rapidly learn that it isn't a perfect strategy to get their content out there to carpet bomb media.

However lets perhaps go a bit easier on COC? I mean I'm sure they weren't trying to ruin your day. They're pretty good dudes over there.

Of course they weren't being malicious. The biggest reason this set me off was that they did the same thing with the video section 6 days ago and there was a little blow back in site discussion. The videos were their strike. Because COC advertises with NS, it probably would have been the time to say that posting 20+ videos in a day is not a good idea. That was a mistake to learn from. Then 5 days later a million photos get posted, that's what set me over the edge. The photo section and video sections exist for everyone to show their work. By COC post pages of photos, a picture that was posted three seconds before cock is all of the sudden a few pages deep killing its chance at becoming hot or top rated. I doubt COC was trying to screw people over but in essence, they killed chances of other members having top rated media. COC had a couple of photos in the archive that was posted that could have been top rated that never will be because of the way they posted them.

If COC didn't advertise with NS, how would your response to this thread or their media uploads be different?

I agree with t_rob.

Bishop, in a thread not too long ago in M&A you were talking about what makes a good edit vs bad edit. You said only put in the bangers and not a lot of filler. People do that and could have spent ALL winter making their banger edit. Maybe a hundred hours of skiing/filming/editing, etc. They put their heart and soul into their edit to upload it to NS and get some views and have people get stoked on it.

Now COC goes and uploads 50 videos in a day effectively bumping all the videos that were just uploaded to a page or two further back where they will get minimum views. Same deal with pictures. The members who are uploading quality content are getting shit on.

Then you say, "oh it doesn't matter, the voting system will sort it out." The voting system can't get content back into a viewable area if it never had the chance to bloom into something bigger to get into the top rated section.

Obviously they didn't have malicious intentions, but in the end, it's sort of what came out of it. It lowers the quality of content that members get to look at because now they have tons of bullshit to cut through and members are angry that all their hard work gets pushed to the side by one attention whore.

Content caps need to be made. Not only will it prevent stuff like this from happening, but is also encourages quality content to be uploaded when only a certain amount of uploads can happen in a day. It also stops impulse uploading. Would COC really upload all that shit if they could only upload 5 videos and 5 pictures a day? I doubt they would wake up every day and think oh hey better upload the next 5 photos out of the 300 I took. No, they would pick the good ones and get their point across.

It feels weird that I'm standing up for a majority of NSers for once. Fuck it.

Overall, this just felt like that right place to start a stand for the photo and video sections. COC gathered a lot of people who are passionate about the photo and video sections together so now it's time to propose changes.

Understandable.

If you do want to share a lot of photos you can always use a free photo hosting website and create an album there and then share the link to it with all the campers.

They uploaded everything at once so they could get all of their videos organized into separate NSTV channels and all of their photos organized into separate photo channels within the Camp of Champions cult.

Some of the posts in this thread are ranting as though this is a serious ongoing issue. Lighten up, kids obvioulsy want the dope shots of THEM on the site, you can't expect CoC to pick favorites.

Then upload all of the pictures to a separate website with albums of each camp session for kids to look through. When they find the pictures of themselves they like they can save them and upload their favorites of themselves to their own NS account so it is actually on their account instead of one out of 500 on page 18 of the COC account.

Parrywithana sees no problem here.

The one time I was able to go some place cool and ski as a kid was at COC in 2002. I was so excited about seeing any pictures from that week. So I can see how kids would want to see pictures of them on NS from COC.

It is an ongoing issue in the photo section, not with COC but with mass uploaders. I usually consider someone a mass uploader if they post more than 5 pics at a time. Every mass upload makes it okay for the next person to and boom, sometimes a photo uploaded an hour ago is off the most recent page. Usually it takes a day. That's ground zero for exposure on NS. If you don't have enough friends to upvote to get you on the hotpage for more people to see your photos, you need to hope the picture section regulars show you love if you want to get there. If people didn't want their pictures to be seen, why would they even post them on NS?

COC just happened to be very high profile member that posted more photos than probably anyone else has at one time and did the same thing to the video section a week before. COC put themselves in a position to be a very easy target. Schmuck chirped in and said the reason for the uploads was cult channels and I have no issue with that. If someone ever asked me if I wanted to go there I wouldn't say no and I have absolutely no issues with COC other than mass uploading.

The issue is mass uploading negatively effects other users that uploaded just before the mass upload. That is why I don't like mass uploaders. That is why I made this thread. Mass uploaders usually find their media overlooked as well which is great but it doesn't make up for the kids that got mass uploaded on. This had very little to do with COC being who COC is and everything to do with COC being a member of this site.

The photo and video sections need to be a good place for the uploaders to go or their wouldn't be any pictures for the viewers to enjoy. If you only look at pictures and don't care what gets posted, don't expect other members to constantly be putting new things in them.

Just posting them on flickr would probably been a better option. If kids wanted them on NS, they could just download it from flickr and post it on NS themselves. This would result in a lot less COC uploaded pics.

That has absolutely nothing to do with it, as we would never, ever tell any member of this community (whether they be an every day user or a company representative that advertises with us or not) that they're not permitted to upload as much good content on our site as they want to, nor would we be upset with anyone for doing so.

Like I said earlier. Sorry for what felt like spam. NS should have a button on the uploader that says post to news or gallery. Pinkbike has it so you can post and notify or not notify. That way you can upload the photos, for the campers, drop them into galleries and the drop a link to the gallery without drowning people with photos. It works great. Anyway... The kids wanted all the pictures from camp on NS instead of on Flickr or our app.
Apologies again. A button like Pinkbike has would be an awesome solution. I didn't want to load a bunch of year old photos either till I kept getting asked. I posted up A and B and now it's blood in the forums. So I guess the blood type is AB Negative.
It's safe to say the Camp C and D photos aren't going up.

That way you can post however many 1000 of pictures you want in the cult and not clog up the main sections. I love it when I see pics from COC, I just hate it when it's all I can see.

I maybe went into a bit more detail in this thread because the lynch mob came out again. Trust me man, NS isn't the corporate conspiracy you want it to be.

Hell, Ken is in here saying sorry. He had a valid reason for wanting to put them up, and frankly its just the fact that our navigation for mass uploading and posting is a little bit confusing.

I don't see why the 'lynch the heathens' type attitude needed to go so far. Like so they posted too many photos, we should look at potentially implementing a limit or really suggesting to people that they limit it. Story over, no need to go thermonuclear, no?

Ken, it actually is really easy to do what you're trying to do, and in fact we have the ability to make photo galleries.

HOWEVER - that feature was not yet finished. So you just ever so slightly used it wrong (and there's no instructions so its not your fault) and mass-published.

What you want to do is do the mass upload, but when you're saving everything don't assign a category - just keep them private.

Then, in MyMedia you can create photo galleries and just drag/drop the photos you want into the galleries. Voila, you have a cool way to browse tonnes of photos.

Its not finished yet, which is the reason its so confusing. Sorry, TBH PinkBike and us have about the same level of badassery in development, they just have three times as many developers.

Yeah, I was preaching to the choir. Yeah, I assumed I would be when I posted the thread but I needed to break the ice for people to actually talk about their distaste for mass uploading. The two other threads on the topic didn't accomplish much.

Now you moved this thread to site discussion and the Daily Photo Limit thread got bumped. Proper rules of engagement hadn't really accomplished much on this topic. However, it seems to me like dropping a bomb did. Oops.
