They made him climbing a tree sound like he was attempting Everest and they were dropping the corniest little one liners the entire time. "Tree iron"....EL OH EL!

This. I had to mute the tv while watching the xgames.  Golf commentators might be corny at times, but atleast they have a vocabulary that extends beyond that of an 8th grader who just learned the words stoked, sick and epic.

Wouldn't be that awesome if it wasn't a pro golfer. Seeing that on some of the shitty courses I've played would seem normal. But the fact that a pro in a legit event climbed a fucking tree to hit a ball is pretty ridiculous.

what are like the rules on this? do you have to continue where the ball landed regardless where it lands? is there something like "oob" where you just get some kind of penalty shot. what if the ball was 20 ft higher up that tree and it wasnt possible to hit it?

I think you can like start with a new ball somewhere near the tree, but it counts as a stroke or something along those lines...not a golf expert

you can drop your ball as an "unplayable" if you're able to identify the ball as yours which he did. However, he would have to take a drop presumedly in the rough and take a 1 stroke penalty. He opted to hit it to advance the ball into the fairway instead. If the ball was higher in the tree and he couldn't identify it he would have to take a "stroke and distance" penalty and he would basically be hitting his third shot back on the tee

Alright so the situation was, Kevin was in a weird spot or something. The cart path rule is were you stand in a position of the cart path were your ball or swing wont be affected by the cart path. But no closer to the hole. So in Kevin's situation the only way to take relief from this was by going too far away from the hole were he wouldn't have a chance of even making it on (par 5). Which could lead to a bogey. So he played the ball as it was which is totally acceptable but in your own choice.

So basically the reward of a free drop wasnt really a "reward".
