Mark My Words "Quads will be thrown next year"

After Torsteins second run of snowboard slopestyle, one of the newcasters says, "I'm hesitant to say this, but it looks like he would of had room for another spin. But mark my words ladies and gentlemen, quads will be thrown next year".,

All honestly I think we'll see some in big air skiing and snowboard, maybe one in snowboard slopestyle, but not until the next two years will we really see quads actually being thrown cleanly and consistently, but that's just my thought.

What's your input on this statement? Think there will be quads thrown and stomped in contest, both for skiing and snowboarding? Also, side note... triples in half pipe? Are we going to see them next year?
Curious what you guys have to say.

I think its the beginning of the end, but I think that you're crazy if you think it will take two years. For sure next year quads hit the streets running.

I think that judges should start judging on 80% style and 20% difficulty because quads are too much i think.

If a quad gets thrown in big air its going to start looking more like ariels. I don't like the idea of it personally.

Every one was saying "too much" when trips were starting to be thrown. I feel like everyone will come around to them once theyre thrown

I think its the beginning of the end.
for sure it would be sick to see but thats the point which seperates acrobatic skiing from freestyle.
i guess its just a quesion of time when edollo or kenworthy gonna try it for next years poorboyz movie :D
but then skiing isnt freestyle any more.

They don't even really do quads in aerials. Aerials is mostly about triples.

If they do start doing quads they're gunna have to have some pretty large jumps to give them time and once 1 is landed everyone else is gunna start trying them and were gunna start to see some pretty serious injuries in big air competitions

Then that's even worse. The freeski events should be more about style and flow than throwing the most flips and spins into one jump at the bottom.

I disagree with this. Snowboarders can get around triples way faster, which is why mark and torstien and seb were throwing them in slope course and at euro x where the jumps were tiny. I dont think a skier is going upside down 4 times for awhile, gold metal aeralists only do triples, 4 flips with spins are fucked. I wouldnt be surprised if someone hucked a quad backy into some pow or something but lets be real here, only like 3 skiers actually do triples regularly right now, think about how dubs started what 7 years ago? only jon was doing them and just dub flats, it took 5 more years after that for the first triple flat i think were hitting the limit of jumps and sizes i dont think quad will make an appearance in any sort of cork form.

Triples are too much. Why do people want to do this flippy crap? Didn't anyone see in Horgasm how triples mess your brain with the axis of spinning? Give me some B dog or Liam Downey any day

I think quads next year is a bit far fetched. I think next year we will see more styled triples and im hoping for triples in the pipe.

I thought about it, and realized: We wont be seeing quads in skiing for a looongtime. I think people will try to do different kinds of triples and try to get more style to it.

this point has been made too many times already. yes its true that it might be getting close to aerials but they have totally different styles. There are going to be a lot more spins like alex schlopy's 1980 attempted at the xgames and when they finally do start doing quads none of them are even going to look good.

How about we just agree as a community not even to try them? Nobody wants them. I'm not saying outlaw them like in aerials, but lets just make a pact or something that it's unnecessary for the growth of the sport and too dangerous for it to be worth it.

Yes! too many people are gunna get hurt trying to do this and i really dont want to see all of the best big air skiers getting injuries that put them out for the season on something as pointless as a quad

Who cares? I meran ya it would be sick to witness, but does it really need to be done? Sure it is ballsy as fuck, but it will look terrible. Athletes will have to huck it super hard to get it around. I feel like skiing needs to go in the direction of making existing tricks unique. Adding that certain flavor and style to tricks, and making them different and difficult in that matter, such as Henriks Bio's and butter variations, or Lolo's screamin seamen tricks, or the Gagnier's crazy grabs and caribou shenanigans. That is the direction skiing needs to go in. Not how many times you can go off axis or inverted. That is just dumb.

i think we've hit the size limit of jumps, i mean even quints are possible if the jump is big enough but i really don't think slopestyle courses nevermind terrain parks are going to regularly build 120 foot jumps to do them on. I think triples are the ceiling of the sport.

Chris Collins was hucking triple backflips off pretty good sized cliffs like 6 years ago in Anomaly.

Once quads are thrown I will cease to watch any skiing or snowboarding on television. At that point, all joy is lost, we are watching aerials on jumps that throw you out more than up, thats it. It sucks because style is making a comeback (aka Henriks nose butter doubles and corks 9 or ten tails), but I feel these HUGE tricks will crush any sort of style that tries to come to the forefront. It's sad because being a stylie skier is sooo much harder than throwing triples IMO, and style is coming back but quads are its bane to batman and that would just ruin skiing for the skiers that actually understand skiing and realize what it takes to do a certain trick. Just my 0.02 cents but it is what it is.

skiing is one or both of two things. its either impressive or entertaining or a great combo of the two (tom henrik candide). when tripples started happening you kindof saw a saturation of the impressive side and it looked like that side of skiing was the Nike/Redbull/ insert big name brand here olympic sport that say soccer, basketball or even ski racing has taken on. you gotta remember that (free)skiing came more or less from snowboarding which came from skateboarding and is and always will be fundamentaly concerned with entertaining rather that simply impressing. to see a quad would see some claps and a multimillion dollar deal for a skier where as a spot in a move like EOS has hundreds of thousands droolling on the end of their seat worldwide. sorry to rant its just sorta how i see it

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't quads still forbidden in aerials competitions? There are a few guys who can do them, but FIS won't allow the trick to be approved. Can anybody back me up on this?

I don't want to see quads because I fear they would lead to some very serious injury when people are hucking them. If they make bigger jumps so quads can be thrown the chance of injury will increase. I know that injury can be part of progression, but I think this could cause to much injury. I don't want to see a skier fucking up the rest of their life because they were trying to huck a quad.

Your post doesn't make any sense at all. If style is already making a huge comeback in spite of triples already being hucked how the fuck is someone hucking a quad suddenly going to "crush any sort of style that tries to come to the forefront"? You think quads will be the final straw that makes skiers like Delorme, Keefer, Henrik and all the rest suddenly think "oh fuck this, let's not bother with style anymore, skiing is ruined for us'"? Of course not, it's ludicrous to think that what happens in spin/flip to win big airs stunts growth in other areas of the sport. If anything it encourages those who are doing something different, especially as they are then held in such high regard for doing something different.

Similarly anyone on any one of these threads repeating bullshit along the lines of "skiers shouldn't be doing this, they should be doing that" or "they should all agree not to do quads" is completely missing the whole fucking basis upon which the sport has grown - that skiers are free to do whatever the fuck they want. Anything they think is fun, challenging, rewarding or whatever is fair game and the beauty of it is that we get to sit back and enjoy it and also do the same ourselves. It's not like the sport is limkited to only growing in one direction only and we have to decide which one to go for - it can grow in all kinds of different ways and as far as i'm concerned the more diverse it is the better, whether that includes people throwing quads or not.
