I'm curious to hear what your breakdown is of how much of your monthly NS time you spend on the various sections.

Break down your top 5 in percentages. Totally guesstimate is fine.

But that being said I lurk in NSG mostly as of late(compared to my old posting habits) and the fact that I've turned into a Reddit Junky I just browse NSG based on old habit. It's like cigarettes, you don't even want to keep doing them but you subconsciously do.

Well i spend a stupid amount of time bouncing around the forums, and while I do spend time in the other sections the percentage would probably be way off.

Forum breakdown:
NSG: 50%
M&A: 25%
SG: 10%
Cults: 10%
SD/GT: 5%

I spend more time in photo/news than I do video these days. Haven't really watched a TON of edits this year :\ bummer, quality of what I have watched is super impressive

^^Good read. This scenario is, and will be very common as time passes by for many ns users. Whether it be shifting towards NSG or just slowly moving away from NS altogether as people move away and life happens. I guess my point is just... it's sad to see friends come and go.

I think that is a totally natural part of life, and part of the lifecycle of a user of the site.

Hell, that is a big reason we're moving towards a lot of this rating/sorting stuff - we want people who no longer have the time to check out everything to be able to drop in once a week and check out stuff they'd like.

The time commitment to stay on top of Newschoolers is massive. If those who are on top of it help out with a few ratings here and there, those of us who come less will still be able to be a part of it forever.

I don't think that someone loses the Newschoolers out of their soul, life priorities just shift and time commitments no longer shake out the way they used to.

I hate the talk about members disappearing, leaving the site, etc... really crushes me for some reason. I hope I never have to really leave NS. Aha I love how it's helped me build a good network and my own 'persona' and I feel like if I left then that would all tarnish.

But anywho, back to what I've quoted, in a way I've sort of temporarily left NS because I'm at school living away from home during the week with internet for only a few minutes a day. It is extraordinarily wild how out of the loop I get within just one week right now and it is pretty difficult to pan through all the content as is. Being the season's end is part of that two I think, seems like this all slows down in summer and even mid winter. But still, I get home and start trying to browse and there's a thread on Steve Stepp with some meme, and I don't get the joke at all... I think it's because I had missed something. Lol. Oh well. Just goes to show that content sorting should be pretty good so that I can get right to the essential stuff.

Wow that was a badly worded and structured paragraph... Sorry...

I joined this site back in 2003 and was pretty active back then. (Used to be EC-Andrew)

Once I went to college in 2006 I slowly had less and less time for NS. I was still skiing a lot, but when I was on a computer I was pretty much always doing school related work. It wasn't until this past year that I started being really active on the site again. I am saddened that one of my favorite cults, The Dragon's Lair, is dead, and I'm sad that a lot of my e-friends and favorite members are gone. But some of you are still lurking around here and some of you have been pretty great to read/speak with. NS changes over time, par for the course really, but I think this is a great site.

All that being said, my percentages haven't really changed:

This is it right here - the reason that people leave isn't because they are sick of it, but simply life interrupts. If you aren't on top of shit here like 30 times per day, you get immediately lost.

That is basically the entire reason we're doing everything we're doing. We're trying to take the edge off of that experience, and allow someone to do a quicker dive back into what is going on. This will also accomplish getting people who are new into things a bit quicker.

I relate to this post in a lot of ways. Even with the exact years you're talking about. I think my friends and I still are deeply involved in skiing, though, and I personally want to keep skiing as long and hard as I can. It's just tough when you realize you have to start making money and stuff like that.

That being said, I'm not sure why I spend more time in Ski Gabber. Perhaps because NSG is stupid most of the time.

And what you say about not being able to keep up with the names of skiers who are are at the top killing it... so true.

Life gets in the way. :)

The good news (as evidenced by TGR) is that eventually you get a desk job where you just sit on the internet all day long instead of working. So you're just in that middle sweet spot where you have to bust your ass to get the dead end job to get back on the internet all day.

Of course, personally I recommend finding a job you love.

The funny pat is how the old men weekend warriors actually talk like 10X as much shit as the kids.

Its actually like this in most corners of the internet. Old people didn't grow up with the internet, so they feel much more disconnected from it as a reality. Young people are totally used to the idea that there are people behind those aliases.

Its the wackiest thing ever.

Old people are hilarious on the internet. If anybody has ever read swaylocks, it's a surfboard shaping/making type forum, it's like all old people. They all type in weird as hell styles and are just strange. They argue about stupid stuff (Not that we don't.) and it goes for many pages.

Mine is pretty much

forums: 90%
media browsing: 10%

But of course the media browsing goes to reading articles and watching videos and looking a pictures and such. But I'm gonna pull that whole college thing out, I don't watch as many edits as I used to. Now I just scroll through the forums and see if there's any topic titles that look good, and if there's a video that sticks out on the homepage I'll watch it when I get time. I use a computer every day, so it's hard not to check here, even for ten minutes.
I remember in high school I'd try to find out where the popular videos in the video section were and watch them all the time. But now I'm on spring break so I'm trying to avoid doing work.
