Fuck the X Games.
Yeah of course it would have been harder, who cares though? They just wanted to "X Gamesify" the newest emerging trend. Then they simply accepted edits- No shit there's a lot of prize money, they didn't do a fucking thing. They can't let something be itself, they have to make everymotherfuckingthing a slopestyle event. I mean, when does "Real Backcountry Downrails" come?? dont get me wrong it's awesome to watch but it is hardly BC. Fer Chrissake, Chad's Gap is probably the most famous BC booter in the fucking world- but you wouldn't even break a sweat getting there. It's like 50 yards from the Alta lot. Fuck that shit.

I am totally glad the athletes made some dough, and the edits were sick, but ESPN can suck a bag of dicks. In Aspen, of course.
He was joking. The people you're talking about are a rediculously small percentage of the people who tour nowadays. Think about it, who the fuck is out on La Sportiva RTs???? Nobody you know, I guarantee it. Everyone wants a 28,000 DIN ubergnar touring binding made from solid unobtanium forged in the fires of Mt. Doom when they can't even make parallel turns on groomers for fuck's sake.
Let's be honest- people overcompensate with their gear all the time, not the other direction. To say that "most BC skiers" are on that kind of ultralight gear rocking spandex and ripping all their tags off to conserve weight is just silly and kind of obnoxious. Sure the boundaries are being pushed as to "What BC skiing is" all the time, but giant booters aren't it IMO. That's park skiing that just happens to be going on outside the park. Who really goes to the middle of nowhere to possibly Tanner their ankles up, miles and miles out in the BC? The truth is, most of that shit is being done within earshot of a parking lot. I was personally way more impressed with Sammy's amazing pillow lines than the *yawn* huge booter whatever future grabs I feel like I've seen a million times before in every ski movie and edit ever.
Again, not a reflection of the performance of the athletes, but more a criticism of the focus of the contest, which I have to admit was pretty spot on for ESPN. If they had a shop till you drop event, it would have 40' fucking booters in the produce section. If they had a landscape paint-off, it would have to send the artists off 100' fucking step-downs between every brush stroke. Give it a fucking rest ESPN, put down the fucking Mt. Dew and stop putting your slopeside big air dick in every hole you can loosen up with a few grand. The BC is natural, and as Sammy and the others so perfectly showcased, it doesn't need fucking booters to showcase talent. Period.
