Need Advice! Missed a college exam, what to do?

Alright so it was a super nice day on Monday and I skipped my afternoon classes, not knowing that I had an exam in one of them. In the syllabus my professor says that we can only make up missed exams in extreme documented circumstances.

I have 2 ideas. Get a note from my "mom" saying that I was driving my grandma to the airport cause her sister died or some shit and my parents were working.

Or just wait a few weeks and be like "Hey I noticed my grade isnt in the computer for the exam... play dumb and try to convince her she lost my test.

Both of these can go wrong in so many ways, and this is really important as my grades are pretty fucked this semester unfortunately.

Does anybody have any advice? My class is at 2 so time is of the essence. THANK YOU

Just tell her straight up you'd like to write the test because you missed it, if she says no then thats that. don't go super crazy about different schemes

2. You probably would have failed anyway, since you couldn't even pay enough attention to realize you had an exam

Oh man I could only imagine how much it would have sucked to realize you had an exam the day you skipped.......you could always "fake an injury".  Like just get someone who is good with make-up and make it seem like you took a gnarly hit to the head.  Then get a fake note from your parents or forge one from a doctor

I was about to make a joke about you posting the thread 2 minutes before 2pm but then I realized that people who have good enough mountains to merit skipping school live in the west.

My suggestion is to go with the first excuse you came up with.

Sometimes you forget things are due.  I know my first semester freshman year, I came into my American politics class and saw everyone with a 5-6 pages on their desk.  Completely started freaking out.   It's a bad feeling :(  Would have gotten at least a B+ in that class instead I got a C =/

Make up a story involving something that is considered very personal so the teacher will not question you and just take your excuse and maybe let you retake the exam.

Really depends on the professor and if they like you. My friend pulled the second one and the prof just gave him 100% because that's the mark he got on the first one. He also regularly used to miss exams, make up an excuse and write it later.
Of course things don't work that well for us mere mortals. I've never actually needed a note when I've beem sick, despite it being a policy, but have always informed them before hand. I did have one prof tell me 'midterms don't really matter' and give me 'as much time as I needed' for a midterm I missed half of.
The sister excuse likely won't work as you would have been able to inform him earlier about it, same with any of the standard illness excuse. You've really screwed yourself over by waiting three days

I mean if it were me, I would be honest (to an extent.) Your ideas sound like they could go very wrong. I'd go in to his/her office, during office hours (not before or after the class because there isn't enough time.) Also, going in during the office hours shows you care more, and it's more personal. Don't say you were skiing, but maybe say you were sick. You had forgotten about the test, and you need to do well in the course, and would very much appreciate a second chance. Maybe ask if there's anything else they would want in exchange, like saying you would do some extra credit too, or help with an on-campus event. Good luck.

go to the doctor and fake a concussion and say you got it last weekend. go to the teacher and say that you are badly concussed, and wasnt in a state to take the exam when it was, and that you thus forgot to tell her about it. if you have a doctor note, it would probably work

As a TA I have dealt with some of this myself. I have seen my share of really crappy made-up excuses and some that were probably fake, but appeared legitimate enough that we accepted it. A guy in my fraternity back in undergrad took too much pre-workout on purpose to give himself palpitations and then went to the ER then scanned the discharge notes/prescription and just changed the dates. That's probably the safest option.

Perhaps just take the fail? You kind of brought in on yourself. Accept the responsibility and learn from it.

But then you also need an excuse about why you were too lazy to talk to him, phone him or email him in the few days since the exam. Even if you've had diarrhea the whole time you'd have had a chance to type an email out, probably day of.

I almost slept through a college exam because I didn't know we had one. luckily i had a friend in the class that told me we had a test. felt pretty dumb for that one. luckily it was intro to psych and you could take all the tests without going to class and pass.

To be fair, he wasn't saying you DID something stupid, he's saying you ARE stupid. So you do seem to have missed the point.

Just man up and tell the teacher you skipped class and didn't know there was a test. It's already a few days too late for any excuse you may have come up with to work, anyway.

shitty man, you made a mistake. although it was a mistake, there is no excuse for it really. learn from it, dont let it happen again.

best thing you can do, if try and find an excuse then have your next exam worth x2 as much.

All of my classes are two midterms and a final. Split 30%, 30%, and 40% respectively. If you aren't getting hundreds on the exams then yeah, missing one would fuck my grade.

Smart people forget maybe 1 homework with 5-10 questions on it. Smart people do not forget a 5-6 page paper, which assuming your at a normal school, you had been talking about every day in class for roughly 2-3 weeks.

also, smart people don't forget they have an exam.
ALTHOUGH, I heard mcdonalds doesnt mind if you forget you had a shift today. Looks like you guys are gonna be Aok.

Good to see I can still count on those in NSG to try to make someone in need's day worse than it already is instead of helping. I guess theres a reason I lost faith in NS a while ago...

We're not trying to make your day worse. We're trying to help you learn a lesson you clearly need and that clearly isn't penetrating your very, very thick skull.

Don't try to pussyfoot around it and come up with some excuse so you can take the test. Just man up and tell your professor you skipped it. If you have any decency that's what you'll do. It's just one exam, it's not going to ruin the rest of your life.

It happens and it's shitty.


The thing about college is they want you to be an adult. Own up to your mistake. Kindly write your professor a very professional email stating that you just entirely forgot and that it is absolutely your mistake. However, you feel you are otherwise doing well in the class. Request that you write an additional term paper for the class in which will go ungraded provided it is adequate and then then not have the midterm calculated into your grade. State that you do understand it is entirely your fault and you are willing to accept the consequences, but you would be happy to meet during his office hours to discuss any and all possible other options.

You're professor will value honesty and an attempt to redeem yourself a lot more than an excuse that sounds iffy. They likely get shitty excuses all the time.
