ESPN is reporting she has a final in school tomorrow and wot compete because of that. It's on their twitter. This is completely legit and ever more disappointing.

Not really. Shes guarunteed to make all her money from skiing during her lifetime. The school does not own her, she is well within her rights to say sorry school but this is more important to my life and CAREER. its a poor decision all the way around. If you think she is being forced to attend school youre stupid

meh, definitely a tough choice for anyone but its a subjective decision that can't be brought down to what is smart and what isn't. she valued finishing high school in a prompt way more than going to euro x. her predicament, her values, her choice. good for her for doing it in a much more mature, level headed way than i would have been able to at that age.

It's the wrong choice... IT'S A HIGHSCHOOL EXAM. Jesus if this thing was like okay the mcat or something like that, then okay I completely agree with her skipping x-games for it. But it is a oral exam in HIGHSCHOOL. And she is giving up the chance of winning the biggest event this sport has to offer.

One exam in highschool shouldn't be an issue, at least in the USA. I took some exams early when i was in highschool to travel with the freestyle team, it was NBD.

i don't know i mean its really annoying that she can't reschedule her exam, but i definitely took exams when i was seventeen which impacted on getting into university and stuff

Makes me sad to see how fucking dumb and narrow minded most people are.

What's she gon' do after her skiing career is over without having graduated? Go to McDonalds selling French Fries (punpunpun)?

Seriously. It's sad that she can't compete and sort of fucked the school didn't let her go, but it was the right decision. If it was for her, then it was anyway.

I personally probably would have repeated the year and took the exam next year, but then again I feel how much school sucks so I'd be glad to be done with it.

Now stop bitching. She's better than all of us. More balls than you will ever have (hopefully those balls turn out to be boobs hehe, had to pull this childish one, sorry)

is she now? she is young, talented, obviously hard working, and has the biggest bag of tricks in womens skiing. there will be another x games in like 8 months, so if she is prudent enough to not get hurt she'll be in the next one and hopefully many more to come.

not saying she is right or wrong in her decision, just that its not our place to criticize her for making HER decision. at 17 i would not have been able to make such a difficult choice without bitching about it whole a lot more. good for her for showing some maturity.

Well in Switzerland and probably it is the same thing in Germany. Here at least in my final year when we had some final exams well all the students of a state had the same test at the same time. The reason why it isn't possible to just do it a day after it is that there is a huge chance that other students would go on and tell the answer to the one that didn't take it.

For example I had a friend in my classroom and her father died in a car accident 4 days before the exams, she wasn't able to come to do the exams so she had to redo a year even thought it was a exceptional circumstances.

I'm not sure if it is the same thing in Lisa's school but I would think that it would be something like that.

Therefor as sad as I am that Lisa won't be in the final she probably did the right choice. It she just skipped that exam well she might have had to redo this school year. And this summer she should be all done with school and I could really image her skiing every day after that and progress even more.

In April of my senior year of high school, I went to school 4 days. I had to change some exams, but whatever. I basically just told my teachers that I was peacing out for a few weeks. That was Maine public school.

I don't know Lisa's situation. I know she goes to school in Germany, I don't know what that's like. I know that she was in Voss for world champs, then nine queens, and now x games. My guess is she hasn't been to school in a while and probably has some sort of deal worked out about her schooling situation. This might only be one exam but who knows what she had to change to even get there in the first place. None of this is really relevant to my point.

The reason why I support her going home is that this is a huge decision and it was the one she made. A 17 year old girl choosing to go to school is one of the top stories from today at X Games. It's high profile as fuck, we're on page 2 of a newschoolers thread with tons of people screaming wrong, you're stupid, etc. NS has absolutely no right to tell her what she should do. I'm guessing this is one of the biggest decisions she's ever had to make in her life and she deserves support. What's wrong with her going to school? Just because you would have dropped out for X doesn't mean everyone else does.

This is one X Games. There are 2 a year. It's not like this is the only opportunity she will have to win at X.

Yeah dudes, Germany isn't the US. I know this may come as a surprise but for countries that actually take their education systems seriously ( IE not 19th in the world) finals are a huge deal. In Germany especially, they pretty much determine your future in the county.

I agree that it seem kind of absurd that the school system couldn't work around this, but she made the right choice.

As an example of how poor the US system is you can pretty much look at the writing ability of the kids on these forums.

it is an oral exam though, so content isn't really going to matter, so it is weird that it can't be rescheduled.

So I never said if her decision was the right one or the wrong one.

When I was in high school I was skipping school all the time for skiing. 1st semester in grade 12 I even did all my final exams a week early because I was going to be off competing out of country while exams were happening. I also have not actually needed my high school education (the piece of paper, not the knowledge) in the 11 years I have been out of school for now.

What you guys should all realize is that this is her life, not yours. It's not really our call to say if she should have competed or not - same as it's not our call to say if pros should be doing doubles (and now triples) instead of styled out 900's in competition. It really has nothing to do with us, and therefore, we don't get to have a real opinion in the matter.

Hell, for all we know, she might not actually want to be a pro skier. Sure, she's the best female jumper around, but just because you are the best at something doesn't mean it's what you have to do in life. Maybe she just wants to have fun skiing and do it recreationally. It's her life, not ours.

But on the real, I'm stoked for this girl. She's already got the ability to turn women's park skiing upside down. It's been wide open, and she's hopped into that spot. With her ability now, a few years of experience/crushing comps/filming will lead to doing big things in the sport.

But the truth is, a bad injury turns a bright future of podiums and sponsor checks into shit tickets. Finishing high school/going to college are still priorities given that professional skiing is a dicey line of work longevity wise. And if you're wondering what I mean, check the history--watch 1242, then tell me where Boyd Easley is now. I say she made the right choice.

not too sure, but in england oral exams in foreign languages make up a big part of a final grade as there are only one or two

you can't ski forever, a plan B is a good idea if shit hits the fan

If she wants a career in skiing, then this was an incredibly stupid decision. With the Olympics around the corner, Lisa was in a position to truly catapult her career. Hopefully she still can..



But here's the real kicker: she used to be a figure skater.

While I do partially agree with the fact that it's just a high school english exam and that this is a huge push for the Olympics, people hold values in different orders. To Lisa, school is more important than skiing, and that should be respected. She still has plenty of time to kill it in skiing and I'm stoked to see whats to come.

As far as the exam goes, once she gets it out of the way, it is done forever... She has plenty of competitions ahead of her, and has little to prove, so why not just nail the exam now?

Shut up about the "you can ski forever shit" you can do school ANYTIME. Tom has been slaying contests for 3 years now and going to school. Pushing one exam to the side for a chance to be in the xgames is fucking mellow, especially a highschool exam.

Yeah this. I've shown up to exams and though "I might as well have just skipped this" because I didn't know shit. at least a couple times. and I'm doing well in school. no over achiever but I got into my choice program with grade 11 marks.

I'd like to hear her side of the story on this. there's got to be some wacky over the top reason.

Skiing is a gnarly sport, and fuck who knows what life will bring for anyone. I would have taken the opportunity to ski at X. That's a thing very few people have gotten to experience. I'm not saying skiing > school but life > school. I wish those close to her could have talked her into it.

We're all told at some point in time that we can no longer play the children's game, we just don't... don't know when that's gonna be. Some of us are told at eighteen, some of us are told at forty, but we're all too old.

I guaruntee you another girl will be doing triples in the next few years. Right now her name is riding a tremendous wave because she is the only one in the world who can do dubs. Financially it is a disaster for her to not grab the bull by the horns now. She would be a complete blowout at eurox and she would be a millionare by the end of the comp. you guys dont understand what it means to be #1 in the world at something, financially, compared to number 2 or 3 or 50th. I get that missing an exam might mean repeating a year. But euro x is going to be huge this year, and financially speaking it is a huge mistake.

I can see how this happens. I'm assuming its her first X-games, so understandably She might not have grasped the whole "professional athlete" thing yet. also she's 17, so hell her parents probably run her life. Who knows what theyre like. Thats a hell in itself. Europe. Gotta love it.

Sure it is our place to criticize her decision, she tweeted about and told the public... If she wanted to keep a secret and not have her decision vulnerable for scrutiny then she should of kept it to herself.

The being said, it is a very big deal right now how she is qualified for finals and is in position to potentially win the event. That is not something that happens every 8 months like you alluded to in your post. Look at Nick Geopper, Tom Wallisch, both those guys are on point but didn't make finals at x-games this year due to weather/injury.

This sport has a lot of variance, hence why we always see a different winner in slope style each year at x-games. It was foolish for her to throw away this opportunity to go and take a high school exam, when it is clear that her dream and ambitions is to be a professional skier. She is essentially right now throwing away the opportunity to live her dream, to instead follow through with a backup in case skiing doesn't work out.

If her dream was to be a doctor or something like that, then yes I completely understand why she choose what she did. But you don't get to where she is in this sport right now unless you are truly dedicated to your dream. And right now she just blew away her dream to go take a high school oral exam...

yes the sport has a lot of variance, but on the womens side there have definitely been figures that dominate for a while. she is 17 and is the only girl in the world who can dub 12. one missed x games before she is even 20 isn't "throwing away the opportunity to live her dream" mr. pessimistic exaggerator.

maybe she wanted to hurry up and get high school out of the way now so she could focus 100% on skiing for the olympics and xgames next year. did that seriously not occur to anyone?

How is that ironic? Tanner dropped out of highschool and became one of the best skiers in our sport and dominated the comp scene for years after he dropped out.
