T2i/T3i/T4i?? Which one?

Hey guys, looking to get a dslr cam and am looking at getting a canon. I'm just wondering what would be best to get since there are all these different models with seemingly nothing really new compared to the T2i. Unless I am wrong? Someone who knows more could you please give me your input and opinion on what I should get to film with??

Also looking to film in low light swell.

They are all basically the same camera. The t4i is slightly better in low light, but I would just say go with whatever is cheapest. I don't think that the t4i is worth the extra money.

considering the price of the T3i is pretty low now, that's probably what I would get. T2i is solid too but I sometimes wish I had the articulating screen on the T3i & T4i

yeah i got the T3i because of the lower cost/bundle deal. My advice would be to get it off costco and register it. they will replace it no problem. my first T3i had some failure that wouldn't allow me to have auto focus or get to half of the settings. so far my second one has had no problems.

make sure you get a higher class SD card cause the whole "camera has stopped recording" is a bitch

t5i has just been announced in case that impacts your decision, doesn't seem a huge improvement over the t4i from the speculated specs though.

t2i if you don't care about having a flippydoo screen. You can get them used for around 350 in good condition.

t3i if you want the flippyscreen. You will probably pay another 100 for it though.

the T4i and new t5i is unecessary as shit so don't pay for it.

does the new digic 5 processor or whatever its called in the t4i/t5i make any difference with noise? i thought those new processors were suppose to be tight, or does the 18mp t2i-t5i sensor just suck?

Because the digic5+ or whatever is in the 1dx and 5dm3 and the high iso performance is amazing but im guessing thats coupled with an updated sensor, pretty sure the t5i has the same sensor as the t2i.

The nice thing about the t4i over the t3i is that it has continuous autofocus during video, and does 5 fps over 3.7. It's only 80 dollars more too...

wouldn't continuous autofocus ruin the shot with it continuously readjusting? and it's noise is incredibly annoying and loud.

They are awesome processors, but it's like putting an intel i7 in a computer with 1 gig of ram... there's just not enough to process as it is, so what's the point?

Throwing in dual digic 5's in a 1DX that's shooting 10fps at full frame raw, and does it FOREVER is totally different than a new t5i that can do what.. 5fps? My 20D from 8 years ago does 5fps and still processes it all pretty quickly...

The sensor is a great sensor, it's just when you put it in a rebel and limit everything it can do speed-wise, it changes things. They also don't throw in 1080/60p so they're limiting everything there, too.

Bumping this because a refurbished t4i is the same price as a new t3i, and i dont see any refurbished t3is. Would it be better to get a new t3i, a used t4i, or a used t2i for almost $200 cheaper?


If that made any sense.

Also, keep in mind that the t4i and t5i don't have magic lantern at this point. (Although I heard a rumor that they developed it for the t4i?)

Only big difference is the screen.

T2i: normal screen

T3i: Flippy screen

T4i/T5i: Flippy TOUCH screen.


I personally have the T4i and the touch screen is great, but not necessary. It was a gift, but if i would have saved up for it then i would have gotten the t3i.

Honestly, Just go with the t3i. The flipable screen is great for filming low and high angles and really helps more than you would expect.

go with the T3i for the flip screen. I have a T4i and honestly forget that it's touch screen half the time (though is kinda nifty). The whole STM thing for video is pretty useless. I think the T3i is the most cost effective option of the series... you get the same sensor and the flip screen for a decent price.

because there is literally no difference in video quality between the 60d and the rebel series (maybe t2i there is, but above that there's none). The t4i also has video autofocus if you're super lazy (don't use it, it'll make your shots looked washed), which the 60d doesn't

the only advantage of the 60d is a faster/different processor, so you might like that better for pictures & it can shoot higher FPS i think, and it's got a bit of weatherproofing

If you are really new to filming go t4i because it does quiet constant autofocus and that will help you get used to filming.
