FKS 140 or 180

sorry about another fks question but I search bared it and googled but nothing answered my question SO, I found this years FKS 140 and 180 for the same price. I was origionally interested in the 140s but then I found the 180s for the same price so now I dont know what to do. I know I dont need the 180 but are they better overall? or are they normally more expensive just because they can go to a higher din. I also know the 180s are full metal toe where as the 140 is composite

What im asking: What one should I get, 140 or 180?

Also I'm 6'2'' - 180 lb

The 180 toepiece is stronger and his a higher DIN range.

What do you ride your DIN at normally?

The 180 toepiece is stronger, and the 180 has a higher din range (8-18)

Im usually around 12-13 area, i know i really dont need the 8-18 DIN range, but would there be any reason not to for the same price?

get the 18. dont even think about it. 18 all day if you ride at 12

In that case get the 18's. Both the 140 and 180 feature the same heel piece design (just with a different DIN range), but the toe pieces vary drastically. The 14 DIN toe is plastic and features wings that allow it to laterally release whereas the 18 DIN toe is one big solid piece of metal and the entire toe piece rotates to allow lateral release. This makes for a far more durable and reliable binding the releases when it should and doesn't when it shouldn't. I have ridden one pair of 18's for the past 3 years in the park switching them from ski to ski and they are still going strong. I usually ride an 11 to 12 DIN and I have never had any issues with not releasing or pre-releasing. They are a great binding and well worth the purchase.

Yes.  This 100%.   

The 18 is a one-piece design that is more durable and also it is all metal.  The toe of the 18 also has 40% more elasticity due to it's single pivot design as well.

my dins are usually at 9 or 10 should i go for the 180s or 140s?

as long as you dont have to raise your din to fit into the range i see no reason not to get the bomber toe piece

If you are riding your bindings at 9, don't get 180's. Its not good to be close to either the max or the min DIN value.

being drastically close to either end of the range isn't worth it. It sucks that the 180 has the pivot toe design instead of the wings because I have the same problem where i have to go 140's because of release setting

I get why you dont want to max out the tension on the spring. I just dont see any reason why a spring with minimum tension would be a bad thing.

any tech care to provide some insight?

I have never experienced it firsthand or cared to look at how it would actually happen, but I'm told that if you ride the DIN to close to the bottom of the DIN range, the screw could back right out, lowering your DIN to zero suddenly. Not sure if this is only an FKS thing, but I've definetely heard of this before. (From flashkick actually, and he knows his stuff.)

maybe if your at the VERY bottom of the din range and rode them hard for a long time without checking the screw, other than that there should be no issue with riding with the spring at the bottom of the din range. When your at the top end of the din range the spring tends to wear out faster because its under a heavier load.

pretty sure this is all just an urban legend, i've never experienced any problems with my p18's even though i've kept the toes at 8.5 and the heels at 9, and the bindings themselves have outlived 4 pairs of skis already.

good choice on the fks 18's, theyre great bindings.

Myth. Riding at maximum or minimum is fine. Hell, riding below minimum can calibrate fine.

Set them below the minimum and torque test them. Check enough threads are still engaged though.

Don't do it though. It was just one time for someone who refused to buy new bindings for his girlfriend, and we got him to sign a well-worded waiver.

My dad skis on fks 180s and Im pretty sure his din is around 9 and when he was skiing his first runs at whistler one of the toe pieces just went down to 0 and he said it was like "mr.bobble head" he took a toonie from his pocket and gave it a quick fix though.

Well while taking your skiing ability, height and weight into consideration. I have come to the conclusion that your only choice would be riding these Marker 30.0 EPS:
