Sequence Photo Lag?

So i shot some sequence photos last weekend and I noticed that when i started the sequence before the rider hit the rail, the photos were snapping faster and when the rider came into the shot it would slow down. I have a 7D and I am wondering if this is normal? Or can i do anything to fix it? Thanks!

So there are a few little things, maybe your CF card cannot write fast enough (read/write speed). Or if you are shooting in RAW well the buffer will get full pretty quickly and slow down the burst.

But the other day this happend to me only about 20-25 pictures in and it started slowing down. Usually I'm good until 40-45, still I'm unable to figure out why...

I'm pretty sure you maxed out the buffer on your camera. Shooting JPEG will drastically increase the amount of shots you can take before having this problem

maybe you were shooting 14 bit raw vs 12 before?
maybe you're shooting raw+jpeg?
had you shot a lot previously and the buffer was still trying to recover?(unlikely I know)

not sure about the 7d, but everything else I have tried will either continue at a reduced rate, or simply refuse to shoot until the buffer is clear. Never seen one that starts again at full for a more limited amount, though I could see it being useful at times

NEVER SHOOT GOD DAMN JPEG, seriously if you care about your image at all just set your camera to raw and never change it

A faster memory card doesn't increase the size of the buffer, and with things like a d7100 you're f'd, it can shoot for less than a second continuously.

But yeah agree with the don't shoot jpeg, I'm still hesitant about shooting 12 bit vs 14 bit just to get a couple extra frames on the buffer

also, you could just not spray and pray and actually time the shot and just take 1 image....ya that works pretty well

shooting RAW has changed my life from a photographers standpoint. I only, ONLY shoot jpeg if absolutely necessary (that being at basketball games that I need to just be able to point and shoot) and still I prefer shooting in RAW

I contacted Canon about a similar issue and I figured out that if you have setting such as AI servo, high ISO noise reduction, and other similar settings, it will slow down the burst rate. AI servo only effects the burst rate when it is refocusing, so that could be your issue.

thats it!! i have been shooting in RAW but i have a very fast card (around 60mb/s). Do you know what else there is besides AI Servo and high ISO nr? I just want to get everything right lol

bump up the iso, increase the shutter, and make sure you're shooting jpeg and on manual focus

Yup, and if you ever have intentions of getting an older FF camera (5d1/2) you better learn how to do this.

On my 7d I have high Iso nr off, long exposure nr off, I usually shoot using one shot focus. I don't believe that there is anything else. When I had the problem, I just reset the custom functions and went through and turned everything that would take processing power off.
