Mounting issue...

So I was just mounting some bindings in to a new pair of skis, the shop drilled them and then I literally just glue and screw, I've done this on at least my last 10 pairs with no issues.

This time however, first 3 holes in the toe fine no problem. The 4th toe screw, screw feels weird (using a hand screwdriver), it's going in too easily and then as it hits the point where it should stop turning, no resistance. The screw is in the ski but it turns. At no point did I feel any real resitance. I'm thinking this might be a core problem?

Anyone experienced this?

In the future tighten them down gradually in turn, not each one completely before moving onto the next.

Pull them off, mix up some 24 hour epoxy plus fibreglass (wall insulation), about 1:4 (epoxy:fibreglass) so it's almost a putty and stuff that in all of the holes. Rescrew the binding carefully (try to use the old threads you made and don't push down much on the screwdriver) until it's flush with the topsheet but don't actually tighten the screws down. Wait 24+ hours. Tighten the whole way carefully.

If that fails, try again once. If it fails again, get a helicoil or insert.

I did that, i just didn't describe it because i couldn't think of a way to say it that concisely. It just felt like there was no bite the entire way down. I've since done all the others no problem, could it be a knot in the wood or something?

Not likely to be a knot but maybe something weird in the core. It can just happen even if you're careful though - I spun one screw on one of my heels at the start of the winter and it's held up fine with the epoxy/fibreglass fix.

ok thanks man, I'll either give that a go or take them in to the shop and get them to do it. It's annoying, 18 screws and 1 spun.
