I was wondering if this happened to anyone else, and if they can give me help about what I could do. As for iphones sucking, I dunno, it got the job done and it was cheap, so I went for it, it's not all bad.

happens a lot. go to settings > general >accessibility > assistive touch on

now you can lock your phone without the top button

Same thing happened to me. I've been considering trying to replace it myself, but I've dropped the thing so many times that I'm scared that it's going to fall apart as soon as I open it up haha. Have you taken it in for them to look at it yet?

Haha thanks for the serious reply, I can't right now, or any time soon, so I was looking for help about doing it myself.

As for the assistive touch post, I stated in the OP that I do not like assistive touch, especially when I'm skiing.

Ah, well shoot. I can't give you any advice for replacing it, but I know that when I went into the store to ask, they wanted me to buy a whole new phone, so I would definitely suggest doing it yourself if you can't stand the assistive touch. I probably wasn't a whole lot of help, but good luck with it anyways mang!

There are some really tiny screws in there that have a pretty common problem of breaking. I believe apple categorizes it as a normal wear problem therefore it's not covered by warranty. It happened to my old iphone 4 and I considered repairing it myself but it's actually a bitch to get to and fix and it's way overpriced to get it fixed at the apple store. If you learn to live with it you can usually hit the hold button just right and it'll work.
