It doesn't matter, the new Pope is going to be one of the most influential men in the world - what he does with his power is going to be important even if you aren't Catholic. I really am excited to see who they've elected and what they do with Church - I am hoping for a reformer Pope, someone who is more liberal and involved, with the energy to do great things.

I just sacked this from the wikipedia page of Angelo Scola (the only actual runner for papacy that I know the name of ^^) and yeah...

Why does this make you mad? People are allowed to believe what they want. His perspectives / the perspectives of the Catholic Church might not be the same as yours but it doesn't mean that as a whole the Pope is a bad guy or that all Catholics are bad people. There are more than 1.2 billion Catholics across the world who voluntarily follow the Church, so its fucking obvious that he is going to powerful. He was elected by Cardinals from all over the world. Doesn't seem like bullshit to me.


I am Catholic and yeah I disagree with certain aspects of the Church. But I respect what other people believe and being Catholic doesn't mean you blindly believe everything that the Pope/Church says or does. Look at Joe Biden. He's a Catholic, doesn't mean he's a proponent of medieval views. There is shitty people in every religion but it doesn't mean its bad. Hitler was an atheist, people will find scapegoats to commit evil actions in anything. Its a fucking shame that for so long the Church was one of those scapegoats.


This ceremony is to me so fucking interesting because the reasoning behind his chosen name is indicative to what he is going to do as Pope and the tradition and beauty of the ceremony is amazing. I hope he is a reformer Pope who brings to light the positive aspects of the religion. I have personally worked for the Saint Vincent de Paul charity and its a fantastic, helpful organization. If you don't care, don't watch.

They're going to need to reform a whole lot if they want to keep the church going another hundred years.

I used to be Catholic until I realized that all the positive lessons I've learned from being raised a Catholic can be taught without religion.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not knocking Catholicism, I'm just saying its not for me.
