Wow, that was nuts!! I thought it was going to be some color alteration done in After Effects or something, but they actually colored the snow! That's a pretty cool visual, although I'm not sure how I would feel about slashing a turn and getting a face full of colored dye instead of fresh clean snow.
Im thinking its possibly red clay/sand that has blown off the rocks? if you have ever been to like North/South Carolina you know the stuff im talking about. Im not sure if this is true or not but im thinking its natural.
it would melt within 2 hours or less, resulting in shitty snow all around, but in portions that are about to be skied it works great, or if its maaad cold outside.
the albedo of the snow gets lowered when the dye is thrown on it
yeah aerosols, dust particles in the deserts of southwest utah sometimes get transported to higher elevations in colorado and utah that effect the snow color during some spring snowfall, which is a natural occurrence but the stuff in the video is powdered dye.
