Please check out my band and offer your thoughts (+K)
This is my band, Sharing Stereo. Our music isn't for everyone, but let me know what you think of it. We created this video for a contest to open a big concert, but we weren't selected in the top 25 entries to go onto the next round. Not too worried about it seeing as we're still in high school, but it's a little bit of a bummer. We're working on recording an 8 song EP at the moment.
def for the younger crowd, you guys are pretty good, better than i could do i mean. But ive never really been into this kind of music so i dont have any insightful opinions
thanks. this song is popular at our high school because we played it during a talent show of sorts, so we just decided to run with this song. some of our other songs probably appeal more to older crowds.
also, really not my type of music. but i am a musician, so i'll give my 2 cents. vocals could be more confident in some spots (sounded like you weren't sure what note you were going for in certain spots). this doesn't have to do with the sound at all, but the drummer should definitely try to be more energetic looking / more involved. you guys do a great job of staying tight and together though (unless that's just the editing).
I'm playing lead guitar in this video. Both my friend and I do lead vocals, but he happens to be doing them in this particular song. I appreciate the input. He switched up the vocal melody a bit at some parts from what he normally does in the song. These are most likely the parts where his voice lacks confidence. Agree with the comment about our drummer. He's working on it haha. This is a genuine single-take, live video. No editing on the track, just mixing to get a solid studio sound. Thanks for the input!
There are three demos on there. We don't play "Kill the Kid" and "The Dream" anymore. Vocals in "Kill the Kid" really kind of suck, so ignore any impressions it might make on you. "Reach" will be on the upcoming EP, though. Give it a like if you want!
This is on the radar of my kind of music. I think that, as it's been said already, you guys are pretty tight for a high school band. It was hard to hear the vocals at times on this track, especially when the beat was accented by the crash, etc. Also I think you guys would benefit from more grown up or sophisticated lyrics. I think the contrast between the singer's young-sounding voice and lyrics with a little more meaning or potency would improve your stuff. That'll come with age and disillusionment and all that though, so you'll get there eventually. Maybe listen to some Modest Mouse and draw on that to inform your lyricism?
The room is essentially the size of a modest bedroom, so we literally couldn't move at all without interfering with shots from the three cameras around the room. But yeah, facial expressions could be better. Definitely going to work on that if we decide to do anymore videos like this.
Thanks. We've played together since middle school and our lyrics have come a long way already and I'm sure they'll continue to mature. We couldn't crank the vocals because you can hear the drums over the mic used for vocals. Downside to doing this type of recording in a tiny room. The EP's songs are already set, but the stuff I've been writing recently has definitely evolved. There's really only one other song on the EP with these type of teeny-bopper lyrics. I'll keep that in mind as we continue to write new material. I draw a lot of my inspiration from bands like Frightened Rabbit and The Front Bottoms.
That was actually really good. Wasn't expecting something as tight and well put together as that. One thing I would suggest was maybe in the solo at the end use a volume pedal to turn up the solo guitar, it was a little hard to hear. But overall that was really good and I could actually see myself listening to that!
I fucking love this, keep it up man. I don't play guitar anymore and this really makes me regret that. Vocals are cool too, but I think if you released instrumentals on top of your songs that would bring you a lot more attention. That's my opinion, still really well made thanks for sharing man!
i believe that is what he means although I have no idea how that would bring you more attention. IMO just sing the vocals harder. yell a bit but dont lose tone and become screamy. idk how to explain it better but just pour more into it, needs some feeling.
it seemed a little bit corny to me but man for a highschool band you guys are killin it. way to go!
needs a little more edgyness in my opinion but if you're trying to go for a more mellow vibe then it's just not the music im personally into. one of the most important things to do now though is to consistently come out with new songs and videos to develop more of a fan base outside of your school. some of my best friends are in a band and have recorded with some famous producers who stopped working with them because they had no substantial fan base to begin with.
