the point of this thread isnt that theyre marketing themselves, im just saying fuck deer valley due to the absurd douchery and pretentiousness of the resort. They dn't even let snowboarders shred! at least alta has doper terrain, it's still whack alta does that tho

Yeah, that's such a huge problem. It's not like there aren't two more world class resorts in the same town if deer valley doesn't suit your fancy.

honestly it's pretty impressive that they've been so successful charging a premium ticket price without offering a couple key staples of pretty much every single other major resort - parks and snowboarding. I haven't skied there, but their guest services must be out of this world.

I went to Deer Valley last year for one day, can't say I noticed the "Deer Valley Difference". I was disappointed, their are fucking multimillion dollar mansions in the middle of the mountain going all the way up to the top, and then green catwalks on both sides for like a majority of the runs. It is more "people showing off their money than skiing" as my dad put it. Too much of rich people feel i felt out of place.

It's because they dont have a park and dont let snowboarders in they justify up selling people because of the exclusive factor. Im not saying I care for it but some people do. Usually they are really really rich.
And for the record I have skied at deer valley. It was my first trip ski trip west and I thought It was the most awesome palce ever( I was 10).

Obviously they are not catering to your local ski bum who wants to ski the best off piste terrain they can find.  It's a destination resort for rich people who want to be pampered from the time they get there to the time they leave and ski a lot of groomers. I've heard they are making a mini groomer so that they can groom the glades as well.

There a very few people in this world who have a family, a full time job in the city and ski at a level to fully appreciate mountains like Alta and Snowbird.

Deer Valley is for people who want a winter vacation, where they can leave the kids in a lesson, go carve up groomers surrounded by beautiful scenery and then have some world class cuisine in the lodge.

The idea that ski areas do well by offering the best terrain and getting the most snow is rampant on this forum, and it's totally false. Families and tourists are what support this industry because they're the ones who actually spend the money.

Think for a moment; how often does the average ski bum do any of the following:

-Buy a day ticket
-Stay in a hotel
-Rent equipment
-Buy food from the day lodge
-Buy branded souvenirs
-Sign up for a private ski lesson


Pretty much never. These are the products and services that make resorts money, Deer Valley is just following the cash.

This going to sound like the biggest first world problem, but I actually have a house in deer valley and my dad buys me a season ticket every year. I beg him every year to not buy me one, because every year it is the same trap. He buys me one, and then when i want to go shred pc, canyons, alta, snowbird, I am really guilt tripped. It's pretty reasonable too, I mean every day I ski somewhere else thats like wasting a 100 dollars worth of a ticket on my season pass and then spending another 100 dollars on another ticket. I understand that he buys the season ticket against my wishes, probably because he wants to eat lunch with me and ski a couple of runs with me (he's 65 so he doesn't make it out for much longer than a couple of hours). I mean that's probably why he bought the house to begin with, was to ski as a family. It just kinda sucks because the few times I have skiied park, it's been the most fun thing ever, so it teases me knowing that the best park in the world is just five minutes away. Again I know that this is the biggest first world problem lol "my rich parents are making me ski deer valley", but I can't help but think that deer valley is just boring. Its just a real estate mountain. The worst part about it, is that you try going to discrete areas to build jumps and the next day your little 15-20 foot kicker you spent all day on is just destroyed by the ski patrol. So yes, fuck Deer Valley

no absolutely not shut the fuck up, the terrain there is sooooo fucking fun its a lot like brighton in the sense of there is a ton of awesome cliffs and the pow there doesn't get nearly as tracked out due to the gapers just riding the groomers. Deer Valleys terrain shits on PC at least.

the average skier at dv takes 3.5 runs. they cater to a completely different clientele than the people who frequent this site. it's obviously working for them too.

At least gore is finally trying to build some new stuff. It hasn't all been working for them but they're trying kinds of sorta. The A-frame tube looks pretty nice.

I might get up there this spring for the first time 3 years. I think 2 years ago I went opening day but that doesn't really count and was only for like 4 runs.


08/09 was the last year I really rode there much. I miss the gully up until 07/08 season. That was the most home I've felt in a crew at a mountain. We had that place on lock down for a few years.

Oh god no! Ski patrol destroys your jumps? I used to do that every day with up to 7 jumps a day. Had shovels in my back pack. IF you build them on the trails they're going to get groomed or killed by patrol, that's life, learn to accept that and either move on with life or go somewhere else.

All the lodging/yuppies/amenities aside, they've got some killer steeps. And everyone's a " take 2 runs and go hang by the fireplace" type of skier so it doesn't get as tracked out like PCMR. You'd be lucky to find fresh after a storm at PCMR that hasn't been raped by all the damn ski teams/locals.

But if you're getting a DV pass for big mtn riding, you're a fool and should go make the drive to the cottonhoods.

Oh and to the kid whining about them ruining your jumps: did you not see kings crown on the way into town? Go ski there if you want jumps.

NS needs to stop being so pussy. obviously resorts don't cater to actual skiers, they cater to gapers. but deer valley takes that to the next level. Skiing there as a kid when my parents brought me there i could notice a huge difference in pompous douchery there, and theres no reason for it. there should at least be somewhat of a balance lol.

Well, it's a resort mostly catered to the wealthy portion of our nation. Of course it's going have douches of all sizes. Don't like it? There's 2 other resorts within a 10-mile radius. 4 if you include b-town and solitude. The kind of people worse than the douches you speak of at DV are the ones that drag on and complain how lame deer valley and its guest treatment is.

Luckily we have an assload of free tickets, lol.
