I'm guessing this comp is at wilmot seeing that you ride Alpine Valley it says. Just go big with out getting hurt on whatever shitty build jump they have.
I had my first comp 2 weeks ago, it was a lil rail jam rider judged kinda thing.I went all out and fractured my thumb but at the same time was voted best skier (best trick would have been the best prize imo) anyway point being it was fun don't regret trying to go big haha
I'm in the same boat I'm doing my first non rail jam comp this Saturday and its a big air comp I have a pretty way age group to compete with at my mountian (attitash 16-18) I prob gonna throw rodeo 5 and flat 3
realistically, you do a semi difficult trick like a 5, but take it deep, and since you take it deep, float it, and get a double grab, shifty, etc. this shows that you have control and have balls to do your trick with a lot of air, if the jump is fairly big, then just take to thug zone and do the dub ffront you were talking about. basically style trumps spins all days, (with my experience) but if both are possible, then do them. also, dont stress out when you are dropping. think "I'm gona get the judges to notice me" and play some pump up music, that doesnt stress you out. also, stretch and mentally see yourself doing the trick(s) it helps a ton.
When everyone is practicing before the comp, or if you know who's going to be in the comp, watch what they're doing. If you know who's in it already and know they're tricks then assume they'll do their best tricks. After evaluating who's got the biggest tricks evaluate your bag of tricks and try to stack up to what you know they can do. If it's 2 runs then land then get the easier of the 2 tricks you have in mind out of the way first and if people start stepping up their game then second run step up you're game. The vibe of everyone killing it usually gives me a good vibe to try something big. That was my mind set for the big air comp I did 2 weekends ago and I ended up 2nd overall and won best trick. So I hope that helps! Good luck, have fun, and send it if you have to!
For your first run, do a trick that you are super confident with and then your second, try something harder, so if u possibly crash you still have your first run backing you up
