Almost every one i know claims that they can see how the universe works when they are acid but they cant explain it. None of them has ever explained anything rational from an acid trip. But they all think theyre now enlightened from it. Im sticking with boy thank you very much

Please elaborate on this. I read the Double Helix, watched the film adaptation of it and discussed it for multiple days in my bio class and to the best of my knowledge nothing they did would justify labeling them as "complete and utter frauds and thieves". All of the work that led to their discovery was not entirely theirs, but that is the nature of research in such a hot field. None of their actions were particularly underhanded or shady.

Before I read that big ass article, is that about Rosalind's x-ray crystallography work and how Maurice Wilkins gave Francis and Crick access to it before she wanted to reveal her work? The entire research process behind decoding DNA's structure was fucked because of the lack of cohesion among research groups. If Pauling, Wilkins, Franklin, Crick, and Watson all collaborated to arrive at the correct answer as quickly and efficiently as possible like it should happen the answer would have been arrived at so much faster. I agree that if Crick and Watson didn't have access to some of Rosalind's work they wouldn't have been able to arrive at the solution but it doesn't discredit the rest of their work that led to their discovery.

Not just before she *wanted* to, but before she gave *permission* to, and was never given proper credit for it.

She was given proper credit, just not in her lifetime. As I said before though, access to work that Franklin had not yet given them permission to view does not make them utter frauds or whatever it was that you initially said Watson and Crick were. Also, and I have no idea if this is true or not, but since Franklin was collaborating with Wilkins it is possible that he had the right to reveal the work without her permission. Franklin likely wouldn't have been able to arrive at the proper structure strictly through the use of x-ray crystallography either. If you haven't read The Double Helix you should it's really interesting and an easy read.

25 years and a nobel prize later doesn't suddenly make it okay, but I won't push the issue. Either way, the point was that their work and inspiration could not wholly be attributed to LSD. That's just plain disrespectful to the amount of work they put in as a team to the project and to their education. I will read Double Helix when i have time.

I could care less about the whole LSD thing. I agree about Rosey though. Alas, that was the climate of the intellectual community 60 years ago.

Good catch. I could not care less*. I hate when I make that mistake.
