Need new bindings!! Which marker binding?!?!

Im trying to buy some marker bindings in a spring sale at my shop for cheap, but im not sure which one to get. I have salomon z12's, and they broke this season (plastic) I had them on my chronics, and next season im looking to try and get some lightweight bindings. I was thinking about true centering my chronics 2013 with some marker griffon schizos 2013 or regular griffon 2013's. Are the griffons metal or plastic? Im mainly looking into bindings that are light weight and durable. What about the jesters? Im 130 pounds and im not sure what din setting is good for me. The shop set mine too low, and I started to release when I was buttering on some jumps (ouch) This was my first season on twin tips and learning how to freeski.

griffons would be fine for you at 130 pounds, you don't really need the din or the additional metal of the jesters especially if your still learning and not shredding super hard.

Jesters if the DIN range suits you. You can ask your shop about that. They use metal in many of the places that are plastic on the Griffons, thus being more durable.

If the Jesters have too high DINs, then go with the Griffons. No Schizo.

At 130, any 12DIN should suit just fine. In answer to your question about metal in the Griffons, as far as I am aware the 2010-2011 model was the last year to feature metal. If you are set on the Griffons, I would stray away from the schizo model, unless you know that you will actively be moving your mount point, and can justify your need for them. As from what I've heard they are quite a bit more weighty than your standard Griffon. If I were you, I would also take a look at the Salomon STH12 Driver and the Rossignol Axial2 120. Griffons = plastic

Jester = metal

I don't personally recommend Marker bindings but if they are cheap go with a griffon if you don't shred hard. But jester if you do.

The griffon sounds to have a better din range for you. I wouldnt get the schizo though. The stance on the chronic is only -4 from centre so the 6cm travel isnt really worth it. I would get the griffon and mount them at -2. Its close enough to true centre that you wont notice the difference really and you will still be close to the centre of the sidecut for when you ride out of the park.

I have ridden the schizo and its the shittiest thing i have ever put on my feet the griffon would be fine but i would personally go with a rossi axial 120 or sth12 schizos are heavy as fuck and i never used the system

I currently have schizos and don't have any problems with them. They don't pre-release, which Is something I was apprehensive about as they're basically a coupled rental binding. The heel is near exactly the same as a regular griffon. And the toe is the same as the rental toes but with the schizo cable attachment. It uses the same track system as the regular version but with longer tracks. The only piece which worries me is the connection it's a cable loop connected to a metal piece with a short screw that is threaded as it is screwed in by the tech. Which if the tech doesn't do it well could leave you with a loose fitting screw or a squint thread. The binding itself is a niche market. It relies on the person having a ski which has a core centre around 6cm back from true centre otherwise you can end up behind the centre of the sidecut which isn't ideal. It also relies on the skier having a ski they're comfortable riding in the park (and switch a lot) and everywhere else, otherwise why bother having the adjustment? I have mine on my 10/11 blends which have a core centre of -7 but are a jibby ski with a symmetric flex so kind of the perfect ski for them apart from the bindings being relatively heavy being put on a relatively heavy ski. There is a movement away from the all mountain mid fat jibby skis so I don't know how long it will be viable for marker to continue the schizo. They seem to me to be surviving on the k2s which are sold with them.

by the sound of your weight and ability level, the squire is all you need. at a price point of $150 its worth it. Step up to the griffons once you get to the point that the squire is destroyed or you outgrow it via weight. its a lightweight binding that works well. If thats out of your budget, check out the marker Free Ten. Its basically a lower squire with a different heel piece and can be found for $100

Also, your din is probably a 4-5, so you just barely even make it on a griffon. go with the squire.

but for the long run, I wanted some metal bindings, because I cracked my plastic bindings and they are almost falling off now. I now know that I should steer away from the schizos. But im looking for some bindings that will last a long while. Do you think that the griffons are durable?

Durability of binding I would hands down go for the jester.

Griffons are 2 or 3 seasons and then done. If you ski hard you will break them. I work as a shop tech and I've seen them fail binding tests (releasing early from worn out springs) to actually breaking the binding in half (due to the plastic).

However, because you are so light and small I don't know if you would even be heavy enough to have a din setting on the Jester. Because I would recommend that But I'd have to have your whole specs to get the right din for you. But hands down for durability go with the jester.

That was a helpful review, but what other bindings would be/have the same quality and durability, but lighter weight?
I do not ski SUPER hard, so maybe I don't need the extra durability, as I managed to get 2 years out of a $100 pair of Marker 10's.

coming from the marker 10s, get the squire. Although the other poster has seen griffons fail, I also work in a shop and we sell a ton, yet i haven't seen any come back broken. I've personally had my griffons for two years skiing hard and they still release just fine and my din is 9. Treat your equipment well and it will last. make sure to keep the bindings lubricated properly, release tested each season and store in a dry place that has minimal moisture.

I would skip the Markers and go to Look PX12 or its identical Rossi counterpart. Been on those and Pivots for 7 years now with zero problems. One of my pairs of PX12s has over 250 days and its still going good, even after this season of jamming Dynafit tech soles into them. You can usually get them new for under 150 (backcountry has them for 180 right now) or used for under 100.

Dude at 130 you DIN will not even come close to some of the big metal bindings. The Jester Pro will tear your leg off. I understand you want the big boy binding, but you are not a big boy. The Griffon will be more than enough. That being said your still on your parents insurence so why not.

I agree with what you said. I think Griffons are great bindings for lighter people. I had some and liked them, but after only 16 days grenaded one of the heel pieces. I'm 190 lbs though. I stepped up to the Jester not because I need the crazy din, I needed something more durable.

Ok. So I went to the shop and the guys there dont sell marker bindings, and they just kept complaining about how crappy they were, and that I should get salomon sth 12's, but I dont like the feel of those bindings. Which rossi bindings should I get? the axial 2 120? What others? the details note that it is a downhill binding. not a freeski bindings. HALP!

The sth12 or the px12 would be fine for you, just make sure you get the driver toe if you get the sth12. Downhill just means its for downhill skiing aka not cross country or something like that, theres no "freeski" specific version. Make sure the brake width is correct for your skis.

ok. so i went to the shop today, and I showed them the crack in the plastic, and they were telling me that there was metal railing underneath and that the plastic is just for looks. The bindings wobbles a TINY bit though. Is there anything I should worry about? they told me that I could shred as hard as i want, and it still wont break.

i'll get some pics in a lil bit. How bout rossi fks or look pivots? The guys at some other shop told me that they would not be for freeskiing. I cant really trust that one shop now, because they have screwed me over so many times. I now go to a different shop.

im same height and weight and i would suggest 6-8 din setting, and get normal griffons not schizo, center mounted chronics are sooo  fun i can speak from experience

are the look bindings plastic? I cant risk breaking them again. I was looking into the axial 2 120, and the fks. The fks mainly because it was full metal.

i use look pivot bindings and they are saucy as hell, never had any problems, eject when they should, dont when they shouldnt, plus added non-MCL ripping is a plus for me haha

The full metal FKS is the 18 din version. At your weight and ability level, you have ZERO business being on an 18 din binding.

The fks is a super good park binding, even all mountian its fine. i have the 140 on iron maidens and i personally dont like the fks just because the heal peice moves ad i gotta adjust it every time i put my skis on (but thats just me being lazy as shit) and i notice ive only had em a few months and they look kinda damaged from my kicking off snow IE: paint scraping off/small chips, but that  being said everyone else i know that has them loves them, nevertheless theyre a great binding

im your size and have the 140s I love them and they are my favorite binding I have used, including the 180s and STH 14 drivers, PX jib 14s, ect. I love this binding to death, but a little warning if you do get it, at our weight, set the din either 1/2 or 1 din lower than normal because the elastic travel can make up for the lower din in SOME cases. atleast that is what some shop owner told me haha, but for sure go with any of the progression type of bindings you can grow into with your weight and skilll level. Don't go too hard with a jester or 180, stick with anything under 15, and the min. din should be good for you, then when you get better you can raise it.

Yes, the griffons are plastic. I have some griffons and they work fine for me. They are durable, etc... I imagine you wont be charging to much because you said you were an advanced learner and you also are pretty light. The durability of your bindings should not be an issue. I would go for the griffons.
