Never understood why people would stop, I was never in the situation where i was close to getting pulled over but I know those woods and all the trail heads interconnecting roads like the back of my hand when I was younger, no way a cop would ever come close to catching me as soon as I dipped off the road
Pursuing an atv, go kart, street bike, etc. is illegal for police. If you stop though, you'll get a ticket for trespassing, operation of an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and depending on how pissed off the cop is it will be impounded.
So basically punch it and go as fast as you can to the nearest trail if you ever see a cop car. And atvs are definitly not street legal, even if you register them.
my dad in his younger days was riding his dirt bike a short distance to the edge of town, and a cop started following him so he cut into a field, looked back and the cop was still following him right on his tail, so he led the cop over a known gravel pit, cop drove right off the drop
Atvs get kind of squirrelly at higher speeds on pavement, they like to flip if you make sudden movements because it's a straight axle, no diff. Im sure it's a safety thing, if not then its just some stupid gov./emmisions thing that they havnt bothered to look into.
I can do 55-60 no problem without any wobble, around 70 its sketchy but anythin under 60 is no problem for me. People don't have to ride ATV's on the road I just wish I had the option and if you crash its your fault, you have to assume the risk as an adult. I see the danger in it but as far as I am concerned if you don't feel comfortable riding an ATV on the road then don't. It would just make things easier for trail riding when the trails end for awhile. (Personally speaking) Whenever I am at my cabin up north you have to illegally ride on the road or ride across people's lawns when there aren't trails next to bars/stores if your going into town or bar hopping. Just would make things more convenient personally but it'll never be legal near me anyways.
