There are two types of AT bindings. Tech bindings (dynafit) are the two prong guys that are light and very easy to hike in. They can ONLY be used with boots that have Tech inserts.
The other style is a frame AT binding (marker duke tour, Salomon gaurdian) they can use any ISO boot (alpine binding)
As to the comfort of hiking in a full Tilt? Depends on how long your hike is. IF you are just doing a little side country for 20 30 min you should be fine. If you are touring for 2 hours to get to that sweeet spot way back, I would get a boot that has a hike mode. It can be done but not that great for the longer trips.
