First off, I'd like to say this is just an opinion. You may get angry as you read this, but this is meant to point out a pattern that I observe after having been a member on newschoolers for a while. This is how I feel the process of making a generic ski video goes:
1)
The title of it would be something along the lines of "____ crew/team,
lapping/hiking/having fun at ____ park/mountain" or just something that
sounds witty to entice the audience even more
2) The first shot would be something very goofy/silly to catch the audience's attention
3) Sick skiing (with a lot of shots that go from slowmo and abruptly get sped up right into the next shot)
3.5)
Of course, what's a good edit without slowed-down clips of the skiers'
completely covered faces as I ski past them? I'll throw in many of these
shots as well
4) Insert short excerpt of the skiers explaining what they
did the day of filming, going off about how stoked on life they were,
how the weather was, how johnny flew in from texas the other day, how
pete got hurt halfway into the day, and more shots of people talking
about how stoked they were on life, all while trying to sound
like the chillest stoner on earth
5) Back to some sick skiing and miscellaneous goofy shots
6) End with a banger
7) "Filmed and edited by _____"
8) Song name, crew name
9) Insert logos of all the companies that send some stickers and about $80 worth of gear to the crew every year
10) All of this would have been shot on an HD DSLR, of course, using a glidecam.
Once
you have all this checked off, you have a top rated video on
newschoolers within a day or two. Try it out yourself and see how well
it works. I'm personally starting to realize how many of the top rated
videos are formatted in this style, and it's getting pretty boring. I
myself am not someone who consistently comes out with top rated videos,
so my opinion may not matter to you because of that. I have also
formatted videos in a similar manner before, so you might want to
disagree because of that as well. Again, this is just my opinion, so
don't let this offend you too much if it does. My ultimate goal with this thread is that it will reach out
to some of those who are more creative, and can more
directly have an impact on the newschoolers crowd. I'm just another bystander in the audience, but this is what I think.
